NYC ARBITRON PPM RATINGS RELEASED: DECEMBER 2010

On the NYC ratings grid, the December data listed as WMJC-FM should be listed on the same line with WIGX-FM.
Similarly, the December data listed as WDRE-FM should be listed on the same line with WPTY-FM.

The things of note would probably be the comeback of WSKQ, the decline of WXNY and the continued slow decline of WAXQ. Other than those, pretty much expected (the dip of the all-news stations are a fluke, accounting for factors such as the holidays).

Lite-FM got a big boost from all-Christmas. 'RXP is still floundering. WWPR continues to successfully fragment WQHT.

If WAXQ continues its slow decline, does CC give a thought to flipping it to talk? :)

Except for the last two months/books, WAXQ has averaged 5th in the market in 25-54, and even now is 7th. It's the 17th highest billing station in the US out of over eleven thousand commercial stations. I think it will take a lot more than a couple of soft-side books for this station to change format.

One of the most interesting things about this book is how minimal a hit WCBS-FM took this time around from Lite's annual Christmas stunt. Its numbers, which IIRC got a haircut this time last year, hardly budged this time, falling within the margin of error of the October book. This indicates Lite may have pulled most of its extra listeners from elsewhere this time around (can't figure out which stations lost the most ground to Santa this time) and CBS-FM, which held its ground well, may be poised for a surge in the January and February books.

WCBS-AM will likely get a temporary surge in December and January as well, attributable to coverage of the storms--and by the time that washes out, spring training will be fully under way and Yankee coverage will be back, so expect a strong 2011 for WCBS-AM if the Yankees are any good. Same goes to some extent for WFAN, which will look better in 2011 if the Mets look better as well....

I cannot understand why, in these tough times, NYC continues to operate WNYE with block programming that consistently garners a rating of .1. That is less than some suburban stations with weak signals that reach only parts of the metro area (such as the new, country WKMK from NJ, with a .3).
Wouldn't it make sense for the local government to either provide programming for WNYE with wider appeal, or to sell the station? As it has a decent signal, there should not be any shortage of non-profit organizations that would be interested in buying it.

Keep in mind that the broadcast rights for the Mets and Yankees expire after the 2011 season. If WEPN is not on a class B FM by that time, the teams will likely remain on WCBS-AM (Yankees) and WFAN (Mets). If WEPN moves to FM, I think they'll get the Mets and the Yankees will move to WFAN. We all know the Yankees rights are far more expensive than the Mets, which is why I think a WEPN-FM would have a good chance to get them.

Pure speculation, nothing more! :)

Keep in mind that the "December" book ran 11/11 to 12/8, so only half the book was WLTW's Christmas programming.

Women and men don't like it when you cut off more than half the song and continue to run your mouth. Sometimes over the vocals! I think mixing when done right can give a station a unique identity. But telling a hip hop station to stop mixing is like telling bakery you can't sell cake. It's part of the culture.

Oh yeah, the culture.

lol i was about to say the same thing Hot97 is beating power tho .... During the pass few years power drop the slow jams show at night, and went with regular music.

if power 105 wants to compete with hot 97

get a mixshow at night from 10pm-12am nah flex will just kill that show lol

yea that is true i think Flex has star power that's why he keeps winning at night against Clue so it wouldn't matter if they had push dj clue till midnight.
