NYC Arbitron Radio Ratings: December 2011

WPAT FM's overall ratings have been on the decline and now stand at only 1.8. The recently tightened playlist for this Spanish A/C does not seem to have helped. I wonder if more changes are imminent.
And Regional Mexican WQBU's ratings are down to a .2. That is the lowest I have ever seen for this station. This is such a precipitous decline, that perhaps sampling errors were involved.

How do you say "bring back WDRE" in Spanish? :-X

John Gambling is reporting that his show is #1 mornings in NYC -- no qualifications, he says. I assume that's 6+ or 12+, but it's still quite an accomplishment on an AM station with an AQH that remains flat at around 2.0. Anyone know how the show does in 25-54?

Gambling's show is good radio, IMO, and it's nice to see that rewarded. The shows formula is simple: a host with the background, knowledge, unique opinions and experience to carry the show, live an local, with no need to resort to a staff of comedy writers and gimmicks. Kudos to John, Joe and JJ.

To follow up, Gambling just said the show has a 5.4 share 12+ and is #1 with men in all demos. Pretty darn good!

Even beating Boomer and Carton on WFAN?

The same Boomer and Carton who crows on the air that they've got a bigger audience than Mike Francesa?

Now Mike's got some ammo. Oh, boy... ::)

How good can a morning show be when for every 10 minutes of show content there is 7 min of commercials ??

Ever heard the so called WOR traffic reports ? Its 10 seconds of an actual traffic update followed by 30 seconds of the traffic report sponsor!!

Please!! WOR is unlistenable.

It would be a good idea to actually listen before making such (inaccurate) statements.

And who said i don't listen ??

Then be accurate about the commercial timing. I'm amazed at how long segments sometimes go on without commercial interruption.

Gambling starts @ 10: after the hour until 20: after the hour, then its traffic whether (which takes a min or less) then he is back to introduce the half hour news. Very few times will he take a call or 2 in between. Now tell me where i'm wrong ?

That sounds about right, although it varies with the commercial load.(Actually Gambling just did an interview with Gov. Christie that ran from 8:17 to 8:30.)

But that's not what you said in the original post where you used exaggerated numbers to call the station "unlistenable." Gambling's spot load is fairly typical for a morning show and I think they do a pretty good job of placement so that it sounds like you're getting plenty of content.

If you look at the Poughkeepsie ratings book for the fall that WGNY's "Fox Oldies" are still remains the same in the Spring book, but it gets no ratings. The station is not doing it well as before when it's on 98.9. Too much 50's and early 60's pre-Beatles music on this station. I guess the 50's and early 60's would sound a lot like the old CBS-FM circa 1972-2005. Thanks to the new CBS-FM, it continues to do very well in the PPM's, it plays 60's through 80's and sometimes into the 90's, but no 50's and early 60's stuff on there. "Fox Oldies" plays 50's and early 60's, but not CBS-FM. 'nuff said.
