NYC Arbitron Radio Ratings: June 2012

New York area: http://www.radio-info.com/markets/new-york

Publicly released age 6+ overall rankings for the June 2012 survey period covering Thu. 5/24/12 - Wed. 6/20/12.

The next survey period will be for July 2012 covering Thu. 6/21/12 - Wed. 7/18/12 with the report release date being Mon. 8/6/12.

Note: stations that do not subscribe to Arbitron in certain markets will not show in those markets.

Perhaps 92.3 Now brought in a new PD just in time. In the past 2 months its overall ratings have sagged from 3.3 to 2.5, making it one of the lower rated NYC commercial FM's. During the same time period, rival Z-100 rose almost a full point to 6.5, good for the #2 slot overall.
Some other ratings that may be of interest-WEPN FM actually declined slightly, to 1.6. WBLS remains at #4, evidently continuing to strongly benefit from Kiss giving way to WEPN FM.
WPAT FM declines further, to a 1.2. And WEMP once again is at .6, but with a slightly higher cume.
As a fan of WFUV, I am disappointed to see its overall rating decline to .2.

Nice bump for Z-100, apparently at WXRK's expense, ouch.

WEMP holdin' steady at 0.6.

EDIT - Sorry this looks redundant now that Barry's post beat mine by a few seconds.

Anyone who follows New York Radio have seen a lot of things happen. No one saw the demise of WRKS (98.7 Kiss-FM) coming. And it wouldn't surprise me if the owners of WEMP switch the station to a N/T format within a short period of time.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

It will be a year in August that Merlin went all news on 101.9 and it seems they will never crack a one share. How much longer until they go talk? In Chicago they are doing even worse, dropping to an .03.
Have two major market stations with great signals ever had ratings this bad?

I'm not surprised 98.7 dropped. At this time the Jets/Rangers/Knicks aren't playing. They still had the NBA finals and I know it drew big tv ratings, but it's not the same.

And I noticed WFAN went up another notch.

@LIRadio: ESPN can only hope that they reach a 2, if not a 3 share, during football season. Otherwise, they may need to rethink their strategy on 98.7, as far as programming is concerned. I mean, how does an AM station move to FM and lose ratings?

@Barry: I'm sure WEMP's ratings from their first books as a news station are documented on this board somewhere... and by the way, you left out an "E" in your previous post someplace... :-X

I too am surprised at the 92.3 NOW drop, especially since the CHR format is hot all over, doing great in Dallas, Chicago, Boston etc. WPAT-FM at 1.2? What is going on there? WOR's cume is getting dangerously low. Of course I agree how long can WEMP last, it looks like a bust there. Also WCBS-AM I thought it would be higher due to the Yankees broadcasts.

And people are worried about WFAN? Heh.

WCBS-AM I thought it would be higher due to the Yankees broadcasts.

There was a Yankee game cume figure that was published a few months back that was somewhat surprising.

It showed the average Yankee game cume at about 360,000 last year.

That means that about 360,000 different individuals tune in to, at least, a few minutes of each game.

Comparing cume figures from before the baseball season, it seems the Yankees add about 500,000 listeners a week
to the WCBS cume who wouldn't tune in to the all newser otherwise.

Apparently, the Yankees aren't quite as big a radio draw as many of us have assumed.

I swore that they were getting around a 1.0 prior to the move to FM.

And does anyone seriously think moving Stephen A. Smith to later in the afternoon is gonna really help :p

The CHR format is doing well for CHR's that are actually good in the eyes of good branding and to female listeners 18-34.

You know what they say: "Everybody makes mistakes". ;D Back to topic, though. Concerning WEPN, This is why, for the meantime, a WFAN simul should not even be considered by the CBS folks.

I don't understand why 92.3 Now is having such a struggle competing with Z100, either. That was a bad drop for them. CBS's 97.1 Amp Radio in LA is doing decently against heritage CHR KIIS.

I'm sure Fresh probably bills better than Now, and is more attractive to advertisers. I think I'd agree that if it was 92.3 vs. 102.7 for WFAN-FM, whenever the day comes, it'll be the former. I still don't see them touching CBS-FM.

As somebody mentioned earlier, 101.1 south of New Brunswick fights with B101.1 in Philly.
