NYC ARBITRON RATINGS RELEASED: AUGUST 2011

Now, now...

Now that's a really low rating for 101.9. Not Blink 102.7 low, but still pretty low.

Oh c'mon!

On-behalf-of suddenly-shy MedianJ, I'll say it:
Let's see the number one-year-from-now.

After all, radio is a business, not a hobby.

Noo Yawkers are SO impatient...

Yeah only after I hit the post button did I realize that most of that period was stunting. As for "giving it a year," Blink didn't even last a year, and unlike 101.9, they were promoted on tv, billboards, etc.

And if you think the rating is bad here, you should check out the rating for their station in Chicago, which didn't even have a stunting period.

As for WEMP-FM FM News 101~9:

Keep in mind that the initial flip to the "interim music format" took place on Fri. 7/15/11. The first hours of all news started appearing on Thu. 8/11/11. Last music hour was on Fri. 8/12/11 from 5-6am. All-news from 6am Fri. 8/12/11-present.

Thus, with the survey period being from Thu. 7/21-Wed. 8/17, it mostly covers the "interim music format" of WEMP with only 6 days of all-news.

Chicago had almost the exact same stunting period as New York. WWWN flipped maybe a week before WEMP.

WRXP to WEMP, what a mess.

NYC                                   2.5 to 1.1
Nassau/Suffolk                   2.8 to 1.0
Middlesex/Somerset/Union  3.0 to 1.5

I was hoping to have a good laugh seeing the RXP web stream beat that garbage on WEMP but do not see it listed.  The web stream is pretty good. Anyone know if it is on HD on any of the Emmis stations?  I do not see it listed on HDRadio.com but the imaging still uses 101.9 RXP.

Looks like WAXQ picked up the RXP listeners with bumps in all the books.  Middlesex/Somerset/Union 5.2 to a 6.4, Nassau 3.5 to a 3.9.  People say NY is not a rock town but here we have WAXQ in the top of 5 in NY book and #1 Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

To draw any conclusions at all from the ratings published for WEMP is ridiculous. The station's current news format had only existed for a few days during the August ratings period.
Ratings were also available for the first time for another new station, K Love on 96.7. Their debut on the New
York ratings list is .2. My guess is that most people in the area, even those who enjoy Christian Contemporary music, are not yet aware the station exists. I doubt they do much if any promotion in this area. K-Love does show a .6 on the Nassau/Suffolk chart. So perhaps they have more of a suburban appeal, at this point.

WRXP was really doing gangbusters (compared to their NYC rating, anyways) in the M/S/U book, specifically. So it looks like about a quarter or so of their audience made the switch to the Q.

Seriously, mark your calendar...

Let's meet here one-year-from-today.

Ascribing these new numbers to a-station-THAT-new, at this point, isn't useful.

But a year from now...

What a bad move! WEMP's "FM News" at 101.9 is going down the toilet. Thank you Merlin for ruining their month of not getting it done with a 1.1. I hope maybe the next ratings to come out in September, this will be our last blow. Bring back WPIX-FM that we all know and love since it flipped to "Smooth Jazz" back in 1989 to a soft AC format and calling it "102 WPIX". That's not gonna happen, we shall see! Chicago had the worst ratings since it first started on 101.1 as "FM News". I hope Merlin should go bankrupt and put them out of business in a year or two. If you don't want to listen to "FM News" on 101.9, then don't listen to the station. Listen to other news stations like 1010 WINS and WCBS-AM, that's the two best-known, well-loved AM news stations in the whole wide world. We want 101.9 to put ESPN Radio on there, if Merlin goes out of business in the future.

"FM News" at 101.9 is the second worst station next to "Blink" at 102.7 from many years ago. s I said, it will go down the toilet once and for all, as Captain Jack Sparrow would say "Dead men tell no tales!"

How soon it is forgotten that news and talk challenges take a long time, even in today's fast moving world. How many years did it take KFI to become the master of Los Angeles talk?

Screw all the talk about 101.9... the craziest thing I can see in the ratings is a 1.5 for WFME?!? That has to be a typo. Should it be .5? With a cume of 280k and a 1.5 are there people with PPM's that leave it on for 12 hours a day? What kind of TSL must that be to generate a 1.5 out of 280k cume?

Don't forget, WFME is on "rapture watch" for the next, oh, six weeks or so... ::)

I'd like to know how much of WCBS 880's ratings come from the Yankees games...
