NYC Fantasy Dials (FM/AM)

Rutgers football is now on 660, basketball on 880.
NYC is still a poor college sports market, but both Rutgers programs seem to be on the right track at long last. Do you know if Rutgers buys its time on WFAN and WCBS and recoups the costs by selling advertising for the broadcasts, or if the radio stations are paying rights fees to Rutgers?

While we're at it, let's revert channel 5's callsign to WABD, have channels 9, 11 and 13(!) become independent stations again (and 9 become independently owned), channel 25 become a true educational station once more and channel 31 be reclaimed by the City of New York.

I don't do fantasy sports, and I don't do fantasy radio dial lineups. Live in the present.

My fantasy is that every person gets served at least one station that they like.
Which has never been the case at any time in the history of radio. People have always had alternative sources of information and entertainment, everything from movies, newspapers and live music to humming their favorite tunes to themselves.

My list:
92.3 Alt 92.3
93.1 Same format
93.9 WINS
94.7 Same
95.5 Country
96.3 Same
97.1 Z97.1 (Top 40)
97.9 CBS FM
98.7 Tropical
99.5 Fun 99.5 (Hot AC)
100.3 (blank nothing, give DXers a chance to hear WRNB Philly and DX the side frequencies)
101.1 (See 100.3)
101.9 CD 101.9
102.7 Same
103.5 Hip Hop
104.3 Same
105.1 Same
105.9 The Breeze softer AC
106.7 Same
107.5 Same

Obviously I shifted things around to make 100.3 and 101.1 non existent. A NY DXers dream!

You do realize that someone somewhere would use those frequencies, right? It could be a translator in a nearby suburban county or it could be a pirate broadcaster.

This is actually a pretty solid fantasy dial.

Something that's not a dream though is the 101.1 frequency is now owned by the same company (Audacy) with multiple stations covering numerous cities, such as New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Houston TX, Greenville SC, and maybe even a few others. I'm actually surprised they don't all simulcast as one BIG station.

In that case, I would love for our local 101.1 WROQ here in Greenville SC to simulcast WCBS-FM, or better yet, KRTH 101 from LA, since our local Earth FM WRTH will be gone soon (going to EMF / Air1).

Every market is different and should have different playlists and formats too.

This fantasy stuff is, let's face it, kind of silly. But to me, it's interesting. What would I like to listen to? I'm glad you asked. Something like this.
88.3 WBGO Jazz
89.1 Kick off WFDU and give WNYU a power boost
89.5 Metal and chaos
89.9 WKCR can stay as it is I guess. Maybe just make it more interesting
90.7 WFUV ditto
91.1 WFMU
91.5 Alt hip hop like 91.1 in Chicago
92.3 WXNY Modern rock or alternative
92.7 Spanish AC
93.1 Freeform kind of like WFMU
93.5 Reggae and Caribbean
93.9 WNYC same as now
94.7 old school hip hop
95.5 WPLJ Top 40
96.3 WQXR classical
97.1 WQHT hip hop
97.9 WSKQ La Mega
98.7 Kiss FM old school R&B
99.5 WBAI Kick out the board, make this the public interest station it always should have been
100.3 WHTZ Top 40 Z100
