I was up in the Apple today visiting my cousin in Da Bronx, I live in the south part of Philadelphia, this city has the best HD-2 formats anywhere bar none...92.3 and 104.3 are fantastic for new, old, grunge and 90's alternative, punk, plus metal cuts and just plain hard rock and not the routine shlock, lots of tunes never played on their main signals. CBS-FM's HD-2 also plays 90's alternative and old and new alternative and rock, RXP has a fantastic format on the main signal, on the HD-2 plenty of all the wall cuts, there is even an oldies format PLJ-HD-2. I was going between 92.3, 95.5, 101.1, 102.7 and 104.3 HD-2's and XRP's main signal, which was so much better than WRFF. I thought KTU's HD-2 was country but it wasn't, so there is still no country in NYC on HD-1-2 or 3. Why can't these formats survive on the main signals that they have to be put on HD-2's, it shows programmers can really do a great job with rock formats if they want to. Also the ESB HD's go furthur than the Philly HD signals. I just could not understand in buildings and underground in Penn station no signals were receivable, which was odd due to the proximity of the ESB.

The ESB stations don't transmit with as much power as the Philly stations. I can't get anything in Penn Station, not even analog. I remember I couldn't pick up Pulse 87 WNYZ 87.7 in the subway station directly under the Big Blue Building.

I'm in the NYC market, and my HD radio is collecting dust and its battery is most likely dead (don't you just love those Insignia HD radios). There is nothing good on HD for me. I think Philly has better HD2 stations. 95.7 is Club BEN and 96.5 is Hot Wired, both are a dance format, and there's Z88.9 on HD1.

Quite frankly I think HD posts are as useless as the HD radios!

I have never seen one, I have never listened to one, I don't know anybody who owns one. I've never even seen one in a store!!!

NOBODY CARES!!!!!

Jesus could be on HD radio giving out tomorrow's lottery numbers and nobody would hear it!!!

I have... But that was all that was on display, was the one HD radio. On sale, too...

The only HD stations that I listen to are WLTW-HD2 (country), WRXP-HD2 (smooth jazz) and WFUV-HD2 (weekends). I was disappointed when 104.3 HD2 dropped deep tracks. I would like to see WCBS-FM HD2 play exclusively 1955-63 oldies and 102.7-HD2 recreate WNEW (AM).

Face it: the main purpose of HD2 channels are so that radio programmers can use it as a "crutch" to dump off soon-to-be-former formats (read: smooth jazz) or ones not sellable enough for terrestrial radio in the first place!

Since the HD2 stations do not play commercials they obviously lose money for their owners. The True Oldies Channel (WPLJ-HD2) does air commercials, but what is the sense of listening to it when we have WCBS-FM. True Oldies won't play 80s hits. I don't see the point of re-transmitting WFAN, WCBS880 and WINS on HD3.

What about 103.5 HD2? I'm able to pick Pride up in Long Branch.....with my Zune HD lol.

I think HD radio is a good thing and I truly support it...if not for HD, when I was in the Bronx this week, I would only have RXP to listen to. I remember the good old days coming up from Philly to visit my cousin and having K-Rock, Z-Rock, NEW-FM, PLJ, Q-104(when active rock), Da Buzz, Dare and PLJ playing all type of Rock from Alternative, Metal, Grunge, Hard Rock, Punk you name it. In the late 80's early 90's Philly had crap when it came to Rock so NYC was the place to be to hear all this good music on the radio...At least some of these formats where available on HD this week, as for as the T-dial in NYC now its just an urban wasteland...what the heck happened...I know the tyranical suits dictating what is hot and what is not....bull....

Can't say I'm too pleased with the HD2 offerings overall. The Clear Channel syndicated formats are all well and good (though I miss Classic Lite), and I suppose Last.fm Discover has its merits (it's a bit TOO eclectic for my tastes). But things could be better elsewhere. I listened to K-Rock a bit recently and heard Breaking Benjamin and a Slipknot ballad - not good for this format. Plus it seems like they never update their playlist anymore. And "Tony" is a waste of air space - they should really put a classic oldies format on 101.1 HD2. The "True Oldies Channel" doesn't fill that void, because in spite of its name, it's really not that different from CBS-FM, aside from a much blander (and non-local) presentation.

I do think that, in the next few years, HD Radio will become more relevant. People aren't going out of their way to get it, but as it starts being included on more car stereos, portable music players, and home systems, the channels will start getting listeners.

I think the main HD problem is the signal, way too weak, same thing in Philly, the HD's do not penetrate any buildings and they just dont have the brute power as the main non HD signals in area coverage and they drop and become spotty. Bottom line... how can you get anyone to listen if they cannot hear you....do you all agree...They have to increase the power, I know the FCC approved power increases but by how much...

Yup, and what's not sellable on terrestrial radio?

Everything but hits, lite, classic rock and talk.

When you see a door, you take it.

KROQ leaves me no room to complain, save their talk-a-thon morning show and endless commercial spots. The morning show has to go.

I like K-Rock because it takes more chances, it breaks artists before even KROQ can break them. Also, K-Rock can take detours into 80s and 90s alternative that KROQ cannot due to its need to be more conservative in programming.

Kevin & Bean? Long running 20 year morning show, has to go?

Well I can't say I'm surprised somebody named Brooklyndon doesn't get an L.A. morning show.
