NYC March 2010 Ratings are IN!

It amazes me to see how a station like WBAI survives with perennial near 0 ratings. It's got a full signal, yet it's beaten by several stations that can't even be heard within 30 miles of New York City. Pretty soon it'll get beaten by HD2s.

I'm sure your beloved Pulse laid the smackdown on 'BAI for most of its existence.

Also note that the share for 970 The Apple remains low. Curtis Sliwa's new morning show not setting the city on fire, but there's little promotion for it through the area. I think the only advertising I've seen for it is on Sliwa's Facebook page, but that's about it.

Considering the new "Rush Radio 1200" in Boston tripled its share from its previous format on a somewhat questionable signal, it proves anything is possible, as long as it's promoted enough.

Overall boring month, but noticed CBS-AM down a point (start of Yankees I guess?) and RXP is still growing slowly but surely...

Now has creeped down a bit but still has over 2.5. Their playlist does need a makeover in some points, and I hope they can take a page out of Amp Radio LA's book.

Reason: Pacifica.

Their other stations do not do significantly better. Their superpower LA station gets around a 0.1, too.

The market for right-wing vitriol on talk radio may be burning itself out. Ratings for WABC and WOR continue to slide quite significantly, while WNYM has yet to materialize. On the other hand, WNYC-FM, WNYC(AM), and WWRL remain steady.

WABC had more listener for the month of March than they did during the month of February. WOR did go down significantly.

Now's cume has risen to almost 3,000,000. They're doing better even if they fell a percentage point.
They're sounding much better than they did.

'BAI is not a radio station. It's a mooooovement! Who cares about ratings when it's about changing the world? ;D ;)

On a serious note, the reason that it's now boring is because the stations at the top are pretty much established now. Maybe the stations right around the middle should still watch their backs but, otherwise, things are pretty stable...and none of those top-performing stations I particularly care to listen for long periods of time. ::)

With an AQH listening level last year of around 2,000 persons in the MSA, the movement does not seem to have caught on.

Yes, with adding programming such as their mixsets (Weekend Roll-Out, Saturday Night Dance Party) but as far as what's on their playlist, some songs they add on, other stations played them weeks ago. "Daddy's Home" from Usher was released in January, and it took them almost 3 months to add it? Some other new material that other CHR's (BLI & Hit 106 for example) play already gets great reviews and is on their power.

It's a bowel movement.

I don't find Sliwa that entertaining or personable. I think Dennis Miller from 11a-1p is really good, though. It's not really a bad station, it's just that all the other AM talk stations in NYC are just that much bigger and better (WOR, WABC, WINS).

Not good enough for WOR to hold onto in favor of Lou Dobbs, apparently... but I agree, it's a good listen.

Miller was at least funny, even if I didn't agree with his political views. Dobbs is just a bumbling old fool, and the only thing he's "independent" from is good ratings.

I hope if CBS-FM continues to do well in the ratings, maybe the station will be slowing getting into playing 90's music which will be coming to CBS-FM in a matter of years. WVOS-FM sounded a lot better than CBS-FM, because it's on 95.9 with the morning guy Chris Ingram, the son of Dan Ingram. Thanks to the Poughkeepsie translator at 95.7. If you look at WPBM, they totally dropped the "Classic Hits" moniker and calling itself "92.9 WBPM" and the slogan "Your Classic Hits Station". That must be an improvement, reimaging the station. That has been done during the past month. I hope CBS-FM needs to play the Police "Don't Stop So Close to Me" and a couple of other stuff such as Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love". That's not going to happen anytime soon.

If you look at "Q104", it does sounded a lot more WBPM-like than any other station, just to be you noted.

WABC is still doing okay, but I don't listen to that station. WABC does well right before the departure of Joe Scarborough which he left the station a few days ago. That might be true.

WINS does very well, but I heard from Allan Sniffen saying that there's going to be some big changes coming to 1010 WINS. I will keep you informed.

don't forget that some folks here predicted, when CBS FM first returned, that they would rapidly dump the 1960s after their initial 'honeymoon';
that hasn't happened, The Beatles and The Supremes still rule, and when the new Lite vs.Fresh battle goes into gear, cutting into each other's numbers, watch CBS FM finally scoot up from #2 to #1 in NY!

The real issue is that in 2009 CBS-FM was not even close to being in the top 10 billers, and was only a tiny bit better than Fresh; the demos are the key to this, and, over time, CBS simply has to let got of the things that drag it down in 25-54.
