NYC PPM RATINGS RELEASED FOR DECEMBER 2009

The numbers show a bit of volatility. Fresh shows an impressive increase, no doubt TSL is up because of XMas music on Lite. Now has a cume equal to Hot and Power. The Urban CHR market is looking increasingly crowded...

RXP got a nice little bump.
Fresh's gain appears to be PLJ's loss?
QXR is getting its numbers back.

BUT

Can't help but notice the increasing failure of Party compared to Pulse.

Party did not begin PPM until Dec 2, this is only 8 days of PPM for them.

I was under the impression that they started encoding around the 20th of November.

If so, extrapolation says they got about a 0.3 in the 3rd and 4th week.

The November PPMs included the last 2 weeks of Pulse and 0's for the rest of the period. The December PPMs had about 10 days of Party and 0's the rest of the period. We'll get accurate ratings next month.

Extrapolating that to a month for the sake of comparison between Pulse and Party, that's 0.8 for Pulse and 0.6 for Party.

IIRC its just 8 days of Party (2nd to the 9th) not that it changes much and we will not have a full book till next month.

I hope Party doesn't fail, I just hope that it doesn't do as well in the ratings as Pulse used to so that Party drops the hip hop.

wao, wxny 96.3 is going down fast...from 3.7 to 3.2! la mega 97.9 is going to beat la x pretty fast! from 2.7 to 2.9!

I asked a person who has seen the weeklies, and was told that the station had zips (0.0) in November week 4, December week 1 and had a small showing in December week 2, and full showings in weeks 3 and 4. That would mean they started encoding around the 22nd or 23rd, most likely. There is no way that they would have show in weeks 2 and 3 if they were not encoded.

Wobbles of a few tenths are within the statistical margin of error (look at the ups and downs of all other NY stations)... plus the December book includes the most disruptive holiday week of the year (outside of the Holiday book), where listening is very different from ordinary weeks.

Nick, I'm sorry, but I have to say this....WHAT TYPE OF FAN ARE YOU???? Really. I don't get it! ???

One second you want the station to do well, and then you come off with this? Yes, you don't like hip-hop. I don't like hip-hop either but there is absolutely NO REASON why one should wish misfortune on a station that even though have leaned more on a hip-hop tip as of late, still plays dance music that 'KTU or any other station does not touch! We could have had NOTHING AT ALL and this is something that most Pulse fans STILL DON'T GET TO THIS DAY! Believe me, I am CLOSELY monitoring the music situation over there.

For that matter I have received a DIRECT LETTER from John Caracciolo, CEO of JVC Broadcasting, explaining the situation with the Arbitron ratings and, yes they got their encoder on December 2nd and started encoding on the 3rd, with 7 days in the "can" for the 200,000+ cume that they have accumulated (as was noted earlier in here).

Pay attention to January 15th. If the cume remains the same for the next book, then that is where we have to be concerned regarding the formatics of the station. I am STILL hoping for "the big picture" in terms of more breakoffs of programming on 87.7 and 105.3 within the network but money still has to be made regardless.

I may question things, just like everyone else, but I never gave up on them nor do I wish them any ill will for the sake of bringing up a point.
