Trust me X, I am playing CLOSE attention here........

would a hispanic station tweak into dance without officially changing format? I would think it would have to be an english speaking station prior to going dance. That would mean a full format change.

BADJEF,

All of your wishes go back to what New York radio was in 1977, which isn't the worst thing in the world.

Thanks,

My dream of NYC's dial

92.3- WXRK-K Rock (the original version)
93.1- WPAT-Soft AC (like WDUV in Tampa)
93.9- WNYC stays the same
94.7- WQCD CD 94.7 Smooth Jazz!
95.5- WPLJ probably as the same format
96.3- WQXR classical
97.1- WQHT stays the same
97.9- WSKQ as "97.9 The Wolf" or similar with C&W
98.7- WRKS staying the same
No 99.5
100.3- WHTZ staying the same
101.1- WCBS staying the same
101.9- WPIX probably as Top 40
102.7- WNEW rock
103.5- WKTU Dance/Techno
104.3- WAXQ stays the same
105.1- Power 105.1 stays the same, but without CC ownership
105.9- Jack or Bob FM, need some adult hits in Manhattan, Brooklyn, etc. without taking out a legendary station (like WCBS)
106.7- WLTW mainstream AC like it is now
107.5- WBLS stays the same

Interesting the support across the boards for "Jack". I suspect that it would still be in New York if it had gone to 96.3, 94.7, or even 105.9 - pretty much anywhere other 101.1.

"Jack" - NY's definition of a four-letter word..... :D

I would like to see Clear Channel buy 101.9 and flip it to the same Alternative format they have in Philly, Radio 104.5. They could call it "Radio 101.9".

I would also like to see CC flip 106.7 to Country. I still miss WKHK, Kick 106.7.

Why would the station that bills as much as it does and is almost always #1 flip to country? It has to be a bottom feeder not a station that is currently successful.

It should also be noted that Clear Channel is already at their market limit of 5 FM stations.

It is now.

But assume the flip to "Jack" in '05 was done to 105.9, then what would be the perception?

I agree no one is willing to take that risk these days like PLJ did in the early 80s when they were on top and switched. However this thread is titled "NYC Radio as I wish it could be".

"Wish", I am taking as a personal preference. Just like the other posts here that have no bearing on reality.

What it was in New York was basically that a LEGACY station was being messed around with....and that the whole thing was not carried out properly - and let's face it, at that time, there were several stations that could have done the format without the impact that it had at 101.1

These people have and continue to delude themselves that they still have their beloved CBS-FM. They might have the same calls but the station is closer to JACK than the old CBS-FM.

JACK would have been a success if they gradually moved CBS-FM to that format, not change the calls, DJs nor have the snarky in your face promos.

I agree with Andrea on this one. The Jack format failed in many other markets. A radio station must have some element of personality. Why listen to Jack when you can listen to your Ipod without commercials.
