NYC Radio got exciting again

nd2023

Yes, I know this could turn out to be yet another Pulse87 thread. Before Pulse, there wasn't much going on in NYC radio, besides CBS-FM coming back. But now, look how much more activity there is on the board. So many things happened in a short time...Pulse87, 101.9 RXP, and Citadel trying to not lose money.

Things are always happening. Imus returning, the appearance of Fresh, the return of KRock, ABC trying to sell,
the shakeup at Emmis.....it just seems that the lions are most active when there is new format meat thrown into the cage.

Fresh is hardly what I'd call exciting. And Imus coming back wasn't really a NY story, though obviously it affected NY radio....but it's still a return to the tried and true. Yawn.

K-Rock exciting? You would be hard pressed to find a more boring, pitiful excuse for a rock station in the country. Market 1 deserves much, much better than this. The station managed to become even more boring in the last few months (which I honestly did not think was possible) by playing the 10 safest "Currents" they could find along with the dullest old-time rock known to man. No heavier rock, no modern rock - just the same old yawn-inducing Red Hot Chili Peppers / Linkin Park / Foo Fighters stuff. Essentially, it's now a Q 104.3 doppelganger. Lite and Fresh, Hot and Power, Q and K-Rock - why all these stations that sound the same? There's so much missing from the NYC FM dial and absolutely no one is jumping on it.

The only tolerable FM to me is RXP, Kiss and 105.9 (La Kalle or whatever they're calling it now), and they're all hit and miss. I'm going up to the area this coming week to visit my family - let's just say that I sure wish I had an iPod right now.

The only people in NYC talking about Pulse are the 3 people on this message board. Outside of here you would never know the station existed.

You're missing the point.
And Imus wasnt a NY story? Think they cared in Seattle radio?

If you really think that, just because you personally don't like or can't hear the station, you are way, way, way off.

You would not believe how many people I've heard talking about Pulse, and I'm not even into the whole club/dance scene.

If something good is on the air, even with a limited signal, it will create a buzz. If that bothers some people, well, too bad.

I never said or implied that I had a problem with the station. My point is, I have seen zero advertisements or mention of this station anywhere besides this message board. At this point I don't see Pulse being a player (or even on the bench) in NYC radio. Case in point, I live directly across the river in Jersey City and I get no signal at all on 87.7. How can a station like that compete in this market?

Don't expect a "spectacular debut" from Pulse.

I'm sure that even the pirate radio stations from Brooklyn generate something of a buzz, and Pulse 87 is really not much more than a glorified pirate station.

Pulse is much more than a glorified "pirate" station, but the hate that some people on this board seem to have towards this station is unbelievable. I haven't even seen this much negativity on the Dentist board.

I'm sure a "glorified pirate station" would definitely be able to sign a PPM deal with Arbitron and have the morning show and jocks that Pulse does.

Like neo said, the amount of negativity here regarding Pulse is crazy. Sure, it's signal may not be the best, but it's got everything else a "big station" would have... and more. Think about it.

So they're a glorified pirate station with a generous budget, big deal! :)

Should I bring the coalition over????
