NYC Radio How I feel it should be:

88.7-current format
92.3-Alternative-92.3 KRock or Country-92.3 WYNY
93.1-Current Format
94.7-Country-94.7 WYNY or Alternative-KRock @ 94.7
95.5-current format
96.3-current format
97.1-current format
97.9-current format
98.7-current format
99.1-current format
99.5-current format
100.3-current format
101.1-current format
101.9-90s Hits-Gen X 101.9
102.3-A/C-102.3 WSUS
102.7-Rock-WNEW
103.5-Dance-103.5 KTU
103.7-Rock-WNNJ
104.3-current format
105.1-current format
105.5-Rock-DHA
105.9-current format (larger signal)
106.3-Top 40-Max 106.3 (or a simulcast of Z100) (increase signal)
106.7-current format
107.1-AAA-107.1 The Peak
107.5-current format

101.9 leave it
107.5 old school hiphop
105.1 JAMZ
95.5 X95 Newest rock
92.3 JACKFM 70s and 80s
101.1 bring it back to doowop and 50s,60s
94.7 Cat country (simulcast 96.1 from PA)
Hows that?
add a translator for 1010 wins on 87.9 or 91.9

XCountry: 105.9 can't increase power because you'd run into issues with WCHR-FM 105.7 in New Jersey and WHCN 105.9 in Hartford...

As for Now FM, I think it should get the WNEW calls (close enough to NOW ;)) from that co-owned station in Florida... and if 94.7 gets sold, maybe country or modern rock? Though modern rock has been hurting due to PPM, right?

Wonder if any NYC station will also jump on the "Gen X" fad... I like the Gen-X clone in Albany (105.7 Crush FM) myself :p

There's already an "X" in NYC on 96.3 (a Spanish Top 40 station), and you can't have an AM-to-FM for a commercial station in the noncommercial band, so a WINS translator wouldn't work on 91.9 ;)

Also, I don't like the Jack FM format and its clones myself. As for 101.1, it'd be best left the way it is, but NYC could also use a standards station on AM :)

Another possibility for 101.9 is to put a 90s hip-hop format on it, that could work too :D

With a big enough signal to reach up here, north of the border, after dark.

How I miss the old 1560 WQEW, before they flipped to Disney. :(

There is something for everybody on the internet. In the years to come there will be universal wifi and radios able to receive internet broadcasts. AM and FM radio as we know it may be gone in 25 years.

Agreed.

Though the one thing that AM and FM radio will always have (and I'm not trying to be a traditionalist here) is the fact that they can be local. In that sense, for sports, talk and news, local terrestrial radio will matter. But musically, the Internet will be it. Actually, I don't know if you know this but Pandora cut a deal with GM to have their streaming broadcasts in Chevrolet models come 2012 (such as the Volt). It may still use smartphones to "sync" things up but it's another step up, short of hooking your smartphone directly into an aux port.

I'll take the dial as it was the summer of 2003, with my favorite station Blink 102.7, and KTU was actually a dance station. But my most favorite time for NYC radio was the summer of 2009.

I'd leave Fresh 102.7 alone as their doing well.
Flip 105.1 as Hot, Power and Now all just tied in the current book.
I wouldn't touch 92.3 Now just yet.

For where to place Country, 105.1 would be the place, one less Urban
Or even move KTU to 105.1 and place Country on 103.5

you're absolutely right. I'm a radio nerd and constantly sample terrestrial stations but if I really want to listen to music I go straight for Pandora or Last FM. How can you compare a station you can custom tailor with what's on the dial?

We go straight for our favorite streaming broadcast stations, wherever they are.
"How can you compare", a jukebox with warm and charming voices?
