Back in the late '70s I remember 99X WXLO airing AT40. Also, WNBC aired AT40 in the early '80s. DANNY LYONS, of WKCI & WEBE fame, would be in the studio at WNBC reading tags.
The first station to air AT 40 in NYC was 102 WPIX-FM (101.9). They aired it from its inception in 1970 till sometime in the late 70's when WXLO took over.
AT40 later went to Power 95 WPLJ/WWPR in the later 80s (after WNBC had it). Casey's Top 40 went to Z100.
Then Casey's new AT40 went to Z100 where it remains with Ryan Seacreast.
SO AT40 was on:
WPIX 101.9 FM
99X WXLO 98.7 FM
66 WNBC-AM
95.5 WPLJ-FM/WWPR-FM (there was a short-term change of call letters)
Z100 WHTZ 100.3 FM
And of course in reference to AT 40 on WNBC..there's that great outtake of Casey Kasem doing that promo to join him at 2 am. followed "2??..this is ponderous."
Wasn't Sunday morning the usual (if not only) air time for AT40 when on WNBC and WPLJ?
I don't remember who in NYC was airing the show when this happened, but I do recall DX'ing WBT Charlotte on Saturday Nights when they ran it and feeling rather pleased that I could get the countdown early.
(And then I found out when Billboard actually published the chart...)
