NYC stations weaker tonight

nd2023

Banned
I noticed that all of the Empire stations are weaker and I can't get any in HD tonight. On my Tecsun PL390, the field strength is 10-15 dB lower than what it normally is here. I can barely get them in stereo, whereas normally it's easy to hear it in stereo. There is also a strong tropo opening right now. It just seems easier to null out the NYC stations to get DX on them tonight than otherwise. I'm getting stations from Virginia Beach stronger than stations from NYC. The strength of the Philly stations seems unaffected.

Are the Empire stations on lower power, or could it be that since the HAAT is so high, the signals are being "sucked" into the tropo duct and are reaching the ground elsewhere?

What I'm hearing is that they're doing work on the ESB master antenna system, and the stations are operating from a backup site elsewhere, where they don't have HD gear.

The HD's have been off for most of the NYC stations for the past few nights. 99.5 has been off the air as well. Hartford and Providence stations were coming in strong into New Jersey last night.

Times like that are cool. You get to see how short-spaced stations have become.

Even better during a blackout!

It's like they picked a bad night to go low power. I wouldn't say it's shortspaced when the 92.3 from Providence is coming in over 92.3 Now in New Jersey, that's just tropo.
