NYDMC expands to Boston, Phoenix and Denver

It happened yesterday!

We now have SEVEN chapters (New York, South Florida, Tennessee, Houston, and now Boston, Denver and Phoenix)! We will always continue to push for our music and in the case of Denver, support Hot 107.1 there and help make it that success story!
All of the chapters are on FB....

But what is the connection with these cities to New York? All I've seen is promoting of a weekly show on PRUSA, which is an Internet stream that isn't even Pure Dance ...

"New York Dance Music Coalition" is the brand name because it was formed in New York City. Each chapter has NOTHING to do with New York City directly.

The chapters involved are home grown; there's someone in each city that is an administrator (except Denver, for now). We allow for everyone to promote whatever they are doing (artists, DJs, producers, Internet streams, club events, etc.) as well as networking with one another.

There are some out there that may consider this "TOO FUNNY" and there will be people like that who are just skeptical and condescending in nature to bash on anything going on. Which is unfortunate because I certainly would not someone like that affiliated with any of our groups since they would consider what we are doing as "a joke". We are very serious on what we are trying to do here and for the new cities that launched, those administrators are just as serious as well. I would not have chosen them if they thought what we were doing was a joke.

I think each city should have it's own name instead on New York in it. I mean i'm from Phoenix and it should be named Phoenix Dance Music Coalition instead??????? I think it turns people off with a New York name then city chapter.

Maybe my April Fools joke about a Dance Music Coalition in every little city in the USA will eventually come true.

Not skeptical, just appears like much redundant promoting to your NY podcast / show. If that comes across as condescending, then I apologize for not sugar coating it. I didn't see any promoting for Phx events / DJs / Streams on the Phx chapter....so I don't see how my questions are invalid.

Let me answer two questions here....

DJ Perry - The coalition can only work as long as the members give input to it. By ALL MEANS, we want Phoenix events, DJ's and streams to be promoted here! It's not just about radio in that sense. Whatever we can do to push the Phoenix scene is what the coalition is about. But we do need more members to make that happen and we only have about 40 in Phoenix as of this writing. Right now Denver is off to a fast start. I still have to push on Boston. And if you look at the other boards, you can see the input being given locally by each chapter. Phoenix had just started and it's going to need the word of mouth to make people aware that it's there and that it's about them. I mean, yeah I promote my show but anyone else can promote their shows as well. I have no problem with that.

AZRadioFan - Originally we had that plan and started one as the South Florida Dance Music Coalition. However we had problems with the admin there and he basically locked me and someone else out of my own group and "stole" the board. So for legality purposes, I was advised that it was better to just keep the name that I had originally created but create the different cities as "chapters" with a trademark still pending. That way, if a person were to attempt to try to "steal" a board or the concept, my attorney send out that nice little "cease and desist" letter. But each chapter is run independently. No different than a KFC franchise, just that we don't sell chicken! :)

But for those of you in the Phoenix area, PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT! :) Like I said earlier the "New York Dance Music Coalition" portion is just the "brand name" but everything posted regarding music, Phoenix, etc is all about Phoenix. As a matter of fact, if someone wants to do a Twitter promoting the weekly Phoenix events, that would be appreciated. We have that for New York, South Florida and Tennessee. (example - http://twitter.com/NYDanceMusic ).

Whatever you guys put into it is what comes out of it :) But you also have our backing and support to help with the battle to get dance/EDM recognized on terrestrial radio throughout the U.S.

But are those 40 even in Phx? Or are they the same ones on every chapter promoting their Non Phx stuff? It may sound like a great idea to you, but someone that IS in this area, and IS quite involved with Dance and Local Radio will not comprehend what is currently being displayed there.

Two choices:

1) You can either stand on the sidelines and bitch. And quite honestly if people are promoting their tracks to different markets, I see nothing wrong with it.
2) Join in, contribute and push more on Phoenix related events.

The choice is yours but if you choose number 1, then you have no right to criticize on things because you CAN help but choose not to.

Making an observation is not bitching. I could really care less, just wanted to gain a better understanding, as I wondered if maybe "Phoenix" was a typo from the lack of Phx stuff. Carry on, thanks.

Number 1......CHECK.

Yeah Ricky is great at supporting and promoting my events. He and I are the ones behind Energy Sundays too, which is a weekly tribute (to AZ's former Dance station I was involved in) that plays for the entire day on my Dance stream. Making him your admin is a wise choice. He runs the Energy fan pages as well. I like to think of those as AZ's "Dance Radio Group".

I agree :)

Ricky wanted to help out and I was more than happy to get him involved.

For what it's worth, like I had said earlier, the NYDMC is more than just about getting a terrestrial station back to each city. It's about promoting the scenes for each market and for artists, dj's, etc. to promote themselves as well...whether they have a new track or a gig. While we certainly want more people from Phoenix involved, just for the fact that the dance music community from other areas are reaching out to the new cities as well as the established ones, is good.

But we still have to cover ground here (Denver is off to a torrid start :) ) and to that we have to get to the colleges, clubs as well as the GLBT community to help push our mission further. But we'll do it.

We MAY have another city launching soon :)
