NYT: 60 Minutes changes for next generation

I hope 60 Minutes stay objective and keep Mike Wallaces Legacy alive.

If your goal is objectivity, you don't hire Anderson Cooper.

Tom Brokaw hit the nail on the head this week.

If you are claiming to be an objective journalist, then you need to quit showing up for
slobbering lovefests with politicians (a.k.a. the Washington Press Club Dinner)

Except that these same journalists probably showed up for George W. Bush's Press Club dinners. Do most journalists like Obama more than Bush? Probably - but not everything is about politics. It's about being in the same room and joking around with the POTUS.

As for 60 Minutes, Lara Logan is a terrific journalist, and I'm sure they can find others. Anderson Cooper has been tolerable so far - more straight forward on 60 Minutes than on his CNN AC 360 show where he's burdened by all that silly "Keeping them Honest" crap...the "Ridiculist," etc.

I just hope that going forward, 60 Minutes will retain the quality stories, and resist the temptation to go for just celebrity and true crime stories. 20/20 used to be a quality news magazine, too (though never as good as 60 Minutes). now it's virtually unwatcheable.

Obviously you've not read some of the Tweets of the "journalists" who were there.
Some of the women in particular put one in mind of teenie-boppers swooning at a
Beatles concert.

Correct - I don't tweet, or read tweets, unless they are quoted on some TV show I'm watching. I waste enough of my time on the internet without getting into that BS. But we were talking about 60 Minutes? Did either Anderson Cooper or Lara Logan "swoon" like "teeny-boppers?"

When you make the kind of coarse comment that Cooper did about the TEA Party, even as a joke, you are not objective. When you say it on the air, as Cooper did, you are not credible as a journalist. Don Imus should have a better chance getting hired by BET.

I know Cooper insert his emotions on CNN.

As my mother used to say, "It's not only important to BE HONEST, but you MUST BE SEEN TO BE HONEST. Your actions can not be left open to interpretation." Same rule applies to objectivity.

I wasn't aware that Cooper HAD made a course comment about the Tea Party on air. Perhaps you're correct. If you don't mind repeating it, what was the comment?

I turned off 20/20 for the last time in the 80's after their assassination attempt on three-wheeled ATV's by pointing out that, if parked on a steep enough slope, they are prone to turn over.

Incredible stupidity.

He introduced the public to the term "tea-bagging".

If you are suggesting that the current crop of "journalists" abandon Twitter, I heartily concur.

Brokaw has been in the game a long time. He is embarrassed by this for a reason.

Anderson Cooper: "It's Hard to Talk When You're Teabagging"

Not exactly...
