O & A: Brady Suspended For Steroids. Just Kidding!

Blah Blah blah...please pay attention to us. Blah Blah Blah...Bostonians are so easily riled...Blah Blah...

Much ado about nothing.

Except this story will get picked up by the local hacks, O&A will get press, people will tune in...

Score!

It worked.

Perhaps not the brightest radio gag, but when the hosts announce thats its "make up stuff tuesday" and make no effort to make the story seem even remotly credible, can anyone really be that upset? Unlike the Mayor Menino story, this was very tongue in cheek, and the first thing I did when I heard it was check various news sources. This shouldn't even be a story.

These two made their point, although tasteless, and acquired some numbers for it.

so they got some ink. It still didn't get me to tune in. In fact, just another reason to tune out.

I'm willing to bet that the Krafts are reading the riot act to WBCN's management (and do we all remember which station carries the Patriots' games?). Other than that, no one in Boston cared. O&A are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Ah, no. The only thing they acquired were a legion of people laughing at them for thinking that we'd fall for their stories a second time.

I'm still baffled that some geek in New York thinks they know better than the real Bostonians at WBCN in terms of what morning show would be best for that station.

Since the initial post in the thread links the Hearld article, I'll assume no one listened to the show. Anyone that has listened in the past knows how heavily O&A despise the media, especially the print media, for the unapologetic lambasting they received for thier firable exploits. They have stated numerous times that they have no issue with the facts printed, they did the crime and paid for it. They feverishly abhor the media printing anything and everything regardless of whether it's true or not and rarely ever being held responsible or to any standards regarding unchecked items being printed as the gospel truth. That being said, if I am correct, that is part of the "fun" behind "Make-it-up Tuesday".

From, basically, 6-6:59am, callers brought ideas and they picked the Tom Brady story which was adjusted and molded by fans of the show. At 7am, they made their announcement. Later in the show, Opie read printed articles and sarcastically emphasized the article said "according to sources" and "reports". Even announcing that it was reported on ESPN.com. So the media ran with bloggers and speculation and reported a story that was baseless 110%. I laughed for hours! If two shock jocks report something is on ESPN and you never check ESPN, do you then run it as a story? If bloggers are the main source of the media's stories and they can't bother to do any fact checking...Journalism 101.

Now what makes me throw up in my mouth is that the two wanna-be-reporters who write a glorified gossip column have the audacity to write oh-so-clever "Opie & Dopey" while they sit by their phones awaiting a call on who saw who with who at Sonsie. Even their story uses a source who is a "person who knows". When Fee or Raposa are breaking news on the next Enron instead of where Kate Hudson was spotted shopping, I may hold some regard and respect for anything they attempt to print. With the crap they write, they couldn't bash O&A fast enough. Considering that O&A are probably the ONLY people they can trash "professionally" at the moment...they jumped on it like hyenas on a dead carcass.

O&A got attention, their name in print, a great 5-hour laugh by their fans and made some media goons look like media goofs. Mission accomplished all around if you ask me.

O&A's rating's could use some steroid's.Their show's been dropping faster then Britney Spears panties!!

True, in light of losing big markets like Dallas, Chicago and West Palm Beach, the fact that they're "reporting" this story on the Patriots' flagship just proves they're flirting with disaster. Then again, O&A have been known to take many a gamble.

Maybe they'll be off in Boston soon. They just got the axe in Philly. No more O&A on WYSP, the Eagles flagship station. I bet the Pats have a much higher rating on 'BCN than O&A.

Jerry Williams once told a story of doing a professional-sounding show in a 4th-rate closet that had a microphone in it, but he didn't bring the listeners down with that detail.

O&A can't do that. Their show frequently has something broken, miscued, mic levels off, CDs don't play (Still using CDs? What year is this?), or any other random problem; AND they bring it to the audience's attention. Maybe if someone on their crack staff could check these things beforehand they wouldn't be doing a syndicated version of a college radio show. Bitching about work isn't entertaining, as listeners are on their way to their jobs and they'd rather not hear someone else's complaining.

It is clear they don't have the passion they had for the show and the ratings are a symptom of that.
