I by no means condone what they encouraged the couple to do at St. Patrick's Cathedral that cost them their jobs (which was something that Opie and Anthony themselves admitted to being a stupid move on their part), but you have to cut them a little bit of slack here. Opie and Anthony were simply doing their jobs. Infinity hired them to push the envelope plain and simple, and they knew Opie and Anthony's track record from the very beginning (eg: the April Fool's Incident in Boston where they announced the mayor had died). The fact of the matter is Opie and Anthony were cancelled because Infinity had a lot of pressure put on them from the Catholic League of New York. I could almost guarantee you that had they had not complained and put the pressure on Infinity to get rid of O&A, they would have not been cancelled by Infinity and the show would have gone on. The guys probably would have been suspended at most. In my opinion, Opie and Anthony got a raw deal because they were doing what they were hired to do, but their employers didn't go to bat for them when their loyalty was put to the test and management didn't own up to the fact that they had approved the Sex for Sam stunt in the first place. O&A were just the fall guys plain and simple. This was unfortunate, considering Infinity was making tons of money, getting great ratings on WNEW for their demo, and Opie and Anthony themselves were growing a fairly loyal audience nationwide.
If you've ever listened to Opie and Anthony, their show isn't all about extreme contests and naked chicks like Stern's show. The content of their show is, for the most part, similar to what you'd hear when you're around a bunch of guys, which I think is what has made their show so successful as well as addictive to many of their listeners.
Long story short, considering O & A's demo, they'd be a great fit for WCKG even if Rover stays and the show is put on in a different daypart. If WCKG is really losing money, this may be a quick fix for the station not to mention a cheap one.
