O&A on in Providence?

Which station will O&A end up on?From their 5/11 show they claim they are in negotiations for it...

Well, here's how I see it...O&A are CBS/Infinity affiliated... No CBS-owned stations in Providence... however, Citadel's CEO was pretty close to the boys over at CBS... I believe he worked for them years ago when it was still Infinity... So let's say Citadel is gonna scoop them up.. just for craps and laughs... where oh where could O&A go at the Brine Shrine? Hmm? The Score seems to be the likely candidate... key demographic... might help their 12+ numbers... The only other place it would be appropriate is HJY, and Paul n Al aren't going anywhere. So if they do end up on a station in Providence... and that's a big if.. most likely you will see it on The Score. Finally some life in Providence discussion... maybe not much.. but an inkling... ;)

I've never been a big fan of putting Strong Personalities on a Sports Station. I feel that the star of the show on a Sports station should be the GAMES!Keep the strong personalities on more of a personality driven station. A station where the personalities won't really take away from the format. I admit that this will be hard to do in Providence. There are only two stations where they really fit in. Pro-FM and HJY.The people over at HJY seem to be happy with Paul and Al.. so I don't think O&A will show up there. I feel that PRO-FM will finally be getting a team to liven up 92.3 FM. Pro-FM hasn't had anything creative happen there for years. So Now it's time to bring back some spunk to the station. Yes O&A seem a little to hardcore for the format. However the hardcore part of their show more or less is on XM now. The watered down version of their show is on Terrestrial. So all in all I feel they are pretty safe to broadcast on Pro-FM now.Sounds like an interesting move. Glad something different is happening in this market. Since Stern's show ended on HOT 106, there hasn't really been anything to get excited about in the mornings. Perhaps this will be a reason to tune into Providence Radio again. We shall see.

You won't see them on PRO FM. If they show up, it will be on 99.7.

 NO! No! No! NO NOOOOOOO!~ "jumping up and down taking a fit like a child" I don't want them there! Do whatever you can to make sure they go to Pro-Fm, OK? I know I can count on you......... whoever you are ;D

There's already word from Citadel that it'll be on 99.7. Why in God's name would they put O&A on Pro-FM? That's a ridiculous idea! Now if they flipped the Score from sports to FM talk with O&A that would be a big deal as well. As it is, Opie and Anthony will hurt HJY, EEI, and BRU. But talk all day would probably equal the demise of WHJJ... and threaten PRO AM.This is going to be interesting...

I'll give you a very good reason why! 98 percent of the population has no idea who does mornings on Pro-FM now. I see that as a problem. This is a station that used to be on Fire. People knew everyone by name. Pro-Fm had personality. I still remember the lineup from 20 years ago. Jimmy Gray Tony Bristol David Simpson Nancy Grimes Jim Halfyard Now watch me try that same thing TODAY Bla Blaaaa Huh Umm Tanya Cruz ????????? Ughhhhhhh Get my drift. It's not quite the same. During the last 15 years they've become lost with No direction. O & A would have been a way to recapture some of that old magic and possibly make the station as Hot as it once was. I'm not even an O & A fan. I'm a hardcore Stern fan all the way. But I still realize that at least O & A have a NAME. They have some personality. They have notoriety. They are in Manhattan. They can get some cool guests. They could have taken Pro-FM in an all new exciting direction. Perhaps revived the whole frequency. It could have been nice. I'm also not a fan of throwing people like O & A on an All sports station. Seems like a waste. The last syndicated morning personality on 99.7 was Mancow. We all saw how well that went over. Most of you probably don't even remember that one. MY POINT EXACTLY! If 99.7 flips to talk or even Rock, then that would be a different story. But please don't start mixing Personality Driven radio with a Sports format. I HATE THAT! In my opinion they don't go well togther at all! Now I want you to tell me why the idea is so ridulous?thank you.

SkyNetIt's quite obvious why the idea of O&A on Pro-FM is ridiculous... because Pro-FM targets FEMALES! And O&A obviously target MALES! It's apples and oranges my friend.98% of people don't know who does mornings on Pro-FM? What research is that based on? I strongly disagree as does Arbitron. We can't quote numbers here, but in the winter Women 18-34 they had almost a 20 share! That doesn't sound like only 2% of the population to me.Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a tremendous earth-shattering morning show. But O&A isn't for Pro, it makes absolutely no sense. O&A belong on 99.7, plain and simple. I'm sorry you that you have a hang-up about talk on sports stations and that only games should be on blah blah blah. But last time I checked the Sox, Patriots, Bruins or Celtics schedules, none of them had games weekdays from 6-9a. Sports talk and personality radio don't go together? Though I suppose because you don't think it fits, that means that 98% of the population don't like it. You need to step back into reality. Jimmy Gray is gone and O&A are coming!

I'm fine with O & A coming. It will be good for the market. But I'm NOT glad if it's on 99.7. Simple as that. Who told you that PRO-FM's prime target is females? That is sure an interesting spin that I've never heard of. Does the station quote that in their sales package now. "Pro-FM the station for women"? I would love to know where this Data comes from. It's a new one to me. If I were a Radio Station I would focus a little less on targeting a specific Gender and Concentrate a lot more on Airing interesting programming that makes EVERYONE want to tune in. "Funny is Funny" and "Interesting is Interesting" no matter if you are Male or Female. Counting out half the population is just plain dumb. Telling me that Pro-FM is targeting FEMALES these days is even dumber. O & A have plenty of Women fans as does Howard Stern. Their programs are not specifically gender based no matter how much you wish to believe the overpaid suits that tell you different. Why you feel that 99.7 is a better fit for O & A doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. When you tune into a Sports station...... people want to hear SPORTS! When you stick a guy on a Sports station who doesn't do a Sports show....... you end up with ratings like Imus has on WFAN. It seems painfully obvious to me. I guess it just doesn't to you. It's Ok though. We'll see what happens. If I turn out to be wrong, then I'll be the first one to come here and admit it. But I'm feeling pretty confident that I'm going to be right about this one.

SkyNet,I don't want this thread to turn into you and I arguing back and forth over O&A, but I can't seem to stop myself. You've never heard that ProFM and every other CHR/Pop station in the nation targets females? I'm actually quite sure they quote that in their sales media kits!! I suggest you take a class at Connecticut School of Broadcasting or something, because you need a lesson in Radio101. Funny is funny and interesting is interesting regardless of male or female is also nieve. My wife finds Desperate Housewives and Will and Grace interesting and funny. I find the Sopranos and The Shield interesting and funny. Men like different things than women do. And that's how radio/tv/print media work. It's quite simple. Pro-FM targets women. HJY targets men, etc. etc. Some station do go 50/50, but Pro-FM is NOT one of them.Stern and O&A have plenty of women listeners... I agree. But it's a fraction of the MALE listeners they get. Which is who they're attempting to serve. Howard Stern doesn't have Carmen Electra and Pam Anderson on because he thinks women like them. Howard Stern didn't have the "Tickle Chair" and "Wheel of Sex" because he thought women liked them. O&A don't have a retarded guy and a guy with terrets on because they think women find it entertaining. It's pretty easy to understand.Imus's rating on the FAN? I admit, I don't subscribe to NYC numbers, as I'm sure you don't. But there must be some reason they've kept him on all these years, I would guess his ratings are just fine.I'm sure your radio station that aired "interesting programing that made everyone tune in" would be innovative. But you would probably find you'd have to work at Wendy's to supplement your income after your station got zero ratings and billed nothing per quarter.

Yes I am aware that every Program or Station has a target Demo. My point is that I have never heard of Pro-FM targeting women. Teens "YES". Women "NO". I also had heard that WPLJ New York was going to start airing STERN if he accepted their offer to return to terrestrial Broadcasting. PLJ is the same format as Pro-FM. You would say that they probably target women too! So going by your own logic, it could have been the start of so called" SHOCK RADIO" on stations where it has never been the Norm. In that instance putting Stern on PLJ would have been just as insane to you as putting O & A on Pro-FM. But insane or not...... it was on it's way to happening. As far as ratings for Imus in New York go, take a look at this rude awakening.http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2005/04/more-new-york-city-ratings-fallout.html I respect you for your opinions "Lovefist". However we just don't share the same one.

Wrong again.... Pro-FM doesn't target "teens". Teens don't spend $$$$ and thus are useless to advertisers. Trust me when I tell you. WOMEN 18-34! You "heard" that PLJ "might" air Stern "if" he came back? Well there are a lot of if's there. First off, PLJ is not the same as Pro. PLJ is a Hot AC, Pro is a CHR/Pop. I'm not saying it can't happen. I'm just saying in Providence there are better places for O&A, and in NYC, Stern would be better on one of the other ABC properties other than PLJ.Yes, I'm also impressed with the blog you found that said Imus was slipping. Remember anyone can write whatever the hell they want and post it online. I'm not defending Imus, I think he blows personally. But he's been successful on FAN for years. You need to get all of your facts right. It's the little details that hurt your arguement. You lose credibility when you say Pro-FM is the same format as PLJ and Pro-FM goes after teens. Do your homework!

Well like I said earlier, The goal should be just to get as many listeners as possible. Perhaps it goes against the grain of how the Media works. But like I said before.... Good programming will attract all genders. I guess the perfect example in existance so far would be "THE JACK" format. I'm not quite sure how this format is doing so far. I know that several cities have taken on this Radio format of just playing everything. SO I'm not even sure if "JACK" stations even target one specific Demographic. If they do, I would be interested in hearing who it is. This page I found talks about how Advertisers are now targeting Radio Formats more than age demographics. It's not a new page, but it sure gives you a different perspective on the changing face of how Advertisers are purchasing Radio time these days.http://www.medialifemagazine.com/news2001/july01/july23/4_thurs/news2thursday.html You make a lot of sense and I respect you for that. I don't need to agree with everything to appreciate where you are coming from. So Thank you for the conversation.
