XM Suspends Opie and Anthony

XM SATELLITE RADIO has suspended OPIE AND ANTHONY for 30 days, effective immediately. The suspension follows the airing of the "HOMELESS CHARLIE" rant about Secretary of State CONDOLEEZZA RICE last week for which XM and O&A apologized.

The company says in a press release that "Comments made by OPIE AND ANTHONY on yesterday's broadcast put into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter. The management of XM Radio decided to suspend OPIE AND ANTHONY to make clear that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them."

CBS will keep them on, so much for the claim they dont stand behind their talent!. Strange move by CBS though, there could be a backlash against them for it and there is always the possibility that O and A in their anger over being suspended from XM ( I didnt know it was possible) say something stupid on CBS.

CBS will feel the heat from the publicity and other advertisers who will drop them. They're toast. Just give it a few days at the most.

O&A would have a gift of a lawsuit if CBS fires them! They didn't do anything on-air at CBS to warrant their firing! Imus is going to win big money from CBS, they don't want to pay out more millions to Opie and Anthony. They will NOT be fired by CBS for this.

And no, I don't feel stupid. XM said it was something they said on YESTERDAYS show that made them feel the boys weren't taking this seriously.

It does not matter where they said it. Just because you commited an "act" that wasn't on their (CBS') airwaves doesn't mean you have not commited conduct unbecoming of the company. CBS can fire them. They condoned rape on the air. A standard morals clause is enough for cause.

CBS should allow the Imus case to go to court THEY'LL END UP WINNING MONEY FROM IMUS IF THEY COUNTER SUE. You'll get a majority minority jury, maybe all or mostly black, in New York City. Who's going to win? Not Imus. You can get away with murder with the right jury. Think O.J.

Actually no you're letting your desire rule your posts. Apparantly they are Xm employed, and cbs pays XM for the show, so they have the right to canccel whenever they want. No lawsuit, not any grounds. You think CBs would have trusted them after the last time? You know they had to have had an air tight escape strategy this time.

It's not that simple for some. They feel the need to make sure you don't hear anything that offends them.
 
I think it sucks that people like TowerBuzz and mostb1 feel they have been given the right of what should and shouldn't be on the air. If they are fired, I will be getting rid of all my XM units in my cars and businesses. Good for CBS to stand their ground finally.
 
I think Al Sharpton should voicetrack all dayparts on all NY stations so we get the type of personality radio we all deserve!! Or that which he feels we should.

I think it sucks that people like Johnny Utah cant read the most simple posts and then lie about what others think. I NEVER SAID THEY SHOULD BE FIRED, I never said I WANT THEM TO BE FIRED, I did say that as a result of the merger situation they COULD be fired which is true but at no time did I say " I hope they get fired" or " they should be fired" it did not happen so dont ump me in with MostB who has been very vocal about her feeling that they should be fired. Johnny Utah is a typical "pest" just not too bright.
