XM Suspends Opie and Anthony

XM SATELLITE RADIO has suspended OPIE AND ANTHONY for 30 days, effective immediately. The suspension follows the airing of the "HOMELESS CHARLIE" rant about Secretary of State CONDOLEEZZA RICE last week for which XM and O&A apologized.

The company says in a press release that "Comments made by OPIE AND ANTHONY on yesterday's broadcast put into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter. The management of XM Radio decided to suspend OPIE AND ANTHONY to make clear that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them."

I didn't like them when they were on YSP the first time, I still don't listen to them now, but this suspension, in my opinion, is quite rediculous. Stand up comics, shows like South Park, and anything edgy better look out. I purchased Sirius a year ago because FM radio in Philly was getting too bland, with very little choice, now satellite jocks can be suspended for doing a Saturday Night Live type of skit about the Secretary of State?

I will actually listen to them on YSP tomorrow morning for the first time in years to see if they are free to speak about the situation or if CBS has a noose, I mean leash, on them.

If they do have the boys on YSP tomorrow, it'll be bittersweet. Either they won't say a word, or totally trash XM. Either way, it'll be the watered down/filtered/safe version of O&A for the big 3-ohhhhh.

Count me as one of many who will demand a refund for the month.

All of this stuff is either about a return to decency at the hands of the media or about censorship and brain control/pollution. It can't be both. I think it's the latter.

This is why, whether you like O&A or not, all radio types/geeks need to get in their corner, lest the radio landscape, barren as its becoming now, gets plucked apart once and for all. The "powers that be" cowtow to these special interest groups, thereby giving them poetic license to call for anyone's head that offends them. Where does it end? Look at "Sharpy" Sharpton (thanks, Tom Marr!). He was successful getting Imus ousted, now he'll take credit for O&A. See? This is what this kind of "mind controll of the masses" leads to. People who wouldn't get any kind of press in any linear/normal world now have carte blanche to see fit to dictate what people can say or do. Why doesn't anyone call these "do-gooders" on the carpet for the bias they preach? To answer my own question, blame it on political correctness, and it has to stop!!!!
