O&A to replace David Lee Roth?

I saw a rumor on the New York Radio Message Board that Opie & Anthony may take over David Lee Roth's morning show in multiple markets within the Infinity chain, while continuing their XM show. The FM show might be some type of edited re-broadcast. Anybody hear about this, or it it just b.s.?

In mid-February, OnA alluded to "getting the call" from CBS/Infinity after discussing how horrid David Lee Roth's show was doing. Beyond that, they've been curiously silent about any changes to the show.

O&A must have gotten the word that this rumors is around...I assume that is what Opie's numerous "No comment, all I will say is no comment" comments today.

O&A did laughingly said "We're just waiting for the phone call." and then mocked naming some of the company heads on how they will totally change their views on the church incident and how NOW O&A are a wanted commodity. They also jokingly said that if the money was so stupidly huge, that anyone would be dumb to say no. But they have also mentioned they would never go back to terrestrial radio because they wouldn't even have an idea on HOW to do a terrestrial radio show in the FCC's current stringent environment.

Anthony can't leave the studio fast enough so I don't see either of them wanting to do extra hours for an added show. I say added show because there is no way they could play their XM show on terrestrial radio. Once their show is edited up, you'll have 60 minutes...If you did the whole 4 hours you'd have so much dead air because of the dump. Maybe they could cut up some best of and play it, but the FCC is too anal now and too too big brother.

Lastly, I am suprised Allan Sniffen let a message that mentioned O&A stay on the board more than 30 seconds. He must be with a client and hasn't seen it yet. Allen is in such denial about satellite radio that he still considers O&A unemployed haha

Allen *posted* the rumor.

Anyway, this wouldn't be the first time that O&A's XM show would be repackaged for FM. Citadel ran an edited version of O&A the day after it ran on XM on 3 or 4 of its rock stations to replace "Best of Stern" during one of his vacations in 2004.

Putting it on WNYF and others would be a much higher profile deal. <P ID="signature">______________

haha he posted it? total shock hehe!!! Wow, I didn't know about their XM show being played over the FM...but then again, didn't get XM until a couple months after their show started. I would love to hear how they repackage it and rebroadcast.

Yeah, they also broadcasted an editted version for a while in Syracuse on 95X. It was terrible! You couldn't follow what they were saying because of all the annoying beeps and they had to cut out a lot of material.

accually it is rumard

Can someone explain to me how this would work? I agree that XM will happily take the $$$ from CBS, but seriously, how airable is the show?

Not that the show is dirty all the time but the cussing is very consistant and there are regular topics that in their current format are not airable.

O&A really ready to "water down" the show again? And if so, how much would it change the show? Also, they would have to return to starting the show at 6am again (don't they start at 7am now?).

While I wouldn't be surprised, if they in fact do it, I will be interested to see how they pull it off.

I caught some of the conversation about the rumors on this morning's show on the way into work...They say the XM show wouldn't suffer, but I can't see how it'd work...First of all, the content could be difficult to edit. Second, though O&A DO have commercial breaks (sometimes five minutes, sometimes ten), I imagine they'd have to take longer breaks to accomodate the Free-FM affiliates. Either that or send them to break and keep talking on XM...But then, how do you catch the FM audience up on what they missed during the break? Opie made it sound like they'd consider doing an extra hour, and maybe getting rid of some replays to make it work. They claim to have a system that will work; I'm interested to see what that will be. This could get REAL interesting.
