Word has it O&A were speaking of something happening soon in NY.

Could this be the end of "Roth 6AM/Roth Radio?"

Here's your options:

1) O&A are simulcast on Free FM. Won't happen, XM O&A fans would revolt over FCC acceptable broadcasts.

2) O&A do afternoons on XM, then CBS Radio edits for play the next day. Won't happen, O&A aren't leaving mornings.

3) O&A are edited by CBS Radio for playing the next day. Potential cross-promotion between XM and CBS's broadcasting properties. Could happen.

4) Allen Sniffen admits he's making it all up to stir the pot.

agree, not an option.

it doesn't matter who edits it, cbs or xm, it's hightly doubtful
because xm will insist on allowing its id's mentioned 50 times
an hour and cbs will never go for that kind of arrangement.

o&a mentioned this morning that sniffen's rumor was true to some extent,
but didn't elaborate. they're probably turning it into a schtick to get
some big-time pub out of it.

perhaps it's a weekend leased time infomercial show for o&a/xm,
but i don't see any advantage for cbs to promote its
evil satellite competitor.

About time for Radio to get Creative

RE: OPIE & ANTHONY

I remember being in the NY office of Atlantic Records with the A & R guy who is
now a screenwriter. A fellow from L.A.'s A & R Department that we met out
there was calling the East Coast office. The late Jimmy Miller, upon hearing the secretary say the West Coast guy's name - and having no respect for the "corporate" way they were handling A & R - blurted out "Hasn't been a creative bone in this building after Ahmet" (Ertegun).

Jimmy, of course, created all those great Stones hits on Atlantic - Brown
Sugar, Wild Horses, Tumbling Dice, Happy, etc. etc. etc.

You know, it's the same thing with Radio. Opie & Anthony shock. Ho Hum.
Yawwwwwn. Replacing another bore, David Lee Roth??? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Lee Roth is another corporate choice. Remember, Stern had to fight "the man"
in order to make a name for himself. They still don't "get it". That
creativity has to be fostered in order to find the next series of radio
greats. Curt Gowdy, Arnie Woo Woo, Stern, these giants come along once
in a lifetime because radio is its own worst enemy.

Opie & Anthony - please. Lee Roth is the frying pan, they are the fire.

Jerks.

How about some real on-air talent for a change.

we're waiting.

Talk to the "corporate kids" and maybe...just maybe...one of 'em MIGHT know something about 'creative programming possibilities?' Whether you can convince him (or her) to stick his (or her) neck out and try something different IS ANOTHER STORY?

Unfortunately for radio listeners (and there are STILL a few of us around), the corporate philosophy it to either spend a TON OF MONEY on semi-familiar outsiders who can't confortably adapt to the "radio is a one-to-one communication source?" OR.....the corporate majority players who would rather fill a timeslot with 'a personality who possesses a limited amount of talent, but is willing to work cheap!!!'

Trying to compare Arnie "WOO WOO" Ginsburg and Curt Gowdy to opie and Anthony demonstrates a complete lack of an understanding of what ANYONE listening to radio in 2006 likes, wants, reacts to. It's apples and bowling balls, it's comparing shows from literally 40 years ago to personalities of today, to frame it in a way in which you can relate it is trying to compare Pat Boone's warbling to the songs of Nine inch nails it is in short assinine. It was a different time, different climate, with different expectations and possibilities of on air performance. So you dont like O and A and so predictably respond with a "ho hum" which reveals not only ones age and demeanor but the woefully out of touch attempt at superiority.

Anyway you wont have to worry about it because the CBS statement today as reported on allaccess.com, "O and A will not be returning". So you can move on to the next thinkg you care to bitch about.

CBS: O&A "Not Returning"
So, are OPIE AND ANTHONY going back to CBS RADIO? A spokesperson for CBS tells ALL ACCESS flatly that "O&A are not returning to CBS RADIO," responding to OPIE's prankish reference to rumors at the NEW YORK RADIO MESSAGE BOARD that "the rumors are true ... ALLEN (NYRMB operator SNIFFEN) got it right."

Too bad, would have been fun. They would have gone out in a hail of DISASTER this time!

LOL

Those that can...do.

Those that can't...

You have spent years talking about how radio needs to be improved, and how nobody in the box is any good. How it was better when...Either grab a mic...or swig back a nice tall glass of shut-yer-yap!

You're a broken Victrola.

Re: About time for Radio to get Creative

Actually, Paul, the man's pretty good at writing. Whether you like it or not.
Long after everyone on this board has had their ten minutes on college radio
or weekend FM radio, he who will not be named will still be published.

And if he dies his books will sell for lots more!

Re: About time for Radio to get Creative

Oh spare us Fish.

Woo Woo and Gowdy and Stern and Rush Limbaugh all come from different
genres, if you will. But the point is accurate - Opie & Anthony
aren't in the same league as Stern or Limbaugh, their contemporaries,
and won't have the reputation of Ginsburg, Gowdy, and other pioneers.

That's the big problem. Then you get Neanderpaul who actually thinks
he matters. Paul doesn't realize some people's air checks will last
longer than ANY new gig he lands. And his short-lived time on AAF
and BCN is not even a blip on the Boston radio radar screen. Now that
is pretty sad. Limbaugh snowballed his folksy propaganda into
popularity. He might be playing to a dumb audience, but he found
an audience.

The jealousy on the board in regards to people who actually have a resume and aren't afraid to post it warms the heart.

Looks like someone got a new screen name *DELETED*

Re: Looks like someone got a new screen name

Joe, insteead of complaing about radio - give us some ideas on how to improve it. Just don't say "get creative jocks" without coming up with some real names.

Put yourself in charge of WBCN or WAAF - with a demographic of 18-35 year old men. Give me a roster of who would be your jocks. College students from Emerson (unless it's me :) ) Don't count!

Paul, hows KC treating ya?

Re: According to the allseeing, mystical, CBS EYE logo

According to Opie this morning, he comfirmed to Sean Hannity that they have been in talks with their former terrestrial employers for the last couple weeks. There have been issues in regards to, what else, the show itself. Opie said XM obviously wants to play a part in it, but O&A's main issue has been with alterations to the show. Opie said that if Hannity asked him 2 weeks ago that he would have said that there was a 90% chance in the semi-return. Now with all the wrangling about the show, he can't say exactly what the chances are.

Opie did mention yesterday that O&A actually tried a toned down/language filtered show and no one complained because no one really noticed the change. They were trying things out to see if they could replay some of the show on terrestrial radio. Meh, it would have been interesting.

Could it be they weren't quite the draw XM and they thought they'd be?

More like they needed to save some face after cbs flatly denied what they were saying.

If they were a bad draw then XM would have released them at the end of their one year contract, instead, XM signed them to another contract. Playboy wasn't the draw they expected which is why it is gone. Terrestrial radio stations have already played bits.

They had longer than a 1 year contract and XM having to drop the two dollar charge that they imposed for subscribers if they wanted the show is proof that they were not the draw XM thought they were.
