They are claiming this on their myspace.com/bigoanddukes. I had a quick glance at their arbitrons for the last book in AZ and it seems to check out. I could take or leave the show, but why did no station in AZ pick them up? The Edge certainly needs some help and KUPD could use some new talent. Anyone have some inside info? I assume they were difficult to work with.

I would more likely assume they were still under contract and wanted to go back home. They had 2 choices. Stay here and ride out their contract off the air, or go back home and get put on there. Which one would you take?

I would assume when the station drops the format the contract is null and void. Im sure they just wanted to have a gig and moving to a bigger market is always nice. I am just shocked that they didnt get a better offer from some station here. The Edge has a morning show that doesnt fit the format at all and gets horrendous ratings.

I liked "Big O and Dukes" myself.

Maybe Washington (where I believe they are now) is a bigger, more potentially lucrative market....as would be the earlier time slot of 7 to 10....

The show in washington is pretty much the same show and the boys are great. Actually listen to their podcasts from the wjfk website everyday at work. They do get callers from phoenix too so the fans have not forgotten about them.

I haven't seen the numbers myself, but it is an old rule of thumb in radio that if you look close enough at the ratings, you can almost always find some trend or fraction of a demo where you can declare yourself "number one."

I could take or leave the show, but why did no station in AZ pick them up?

Because being the night show for a failed local affiliate of a failed format doesn't attract the interest of competitors interested in ratings and revenue generation?

True, and true. Oddly enough, the morning shows for both of those stations used to hold down a shift at 840 North Central as well.

Anyone have some inside info? I assume they were difficult to work with.

Well I wouldn't call it "inside info," but I never heard anything nice about them from the people I know in that building.

Likewise.

As to the JFK gig, why not move up to the 8th largest market in a slightly better daypart on a station with actual long-term viability. Ford's right... why would another station want a team that got canned not because of the station's issue with them but because the station was such an underperformer the whole thing got blown up? Especially when you follow the ONLY show on the station that gets ratings AND attract the demos that actually consumes radio from 8-midnight.

;D ;D I'll bet that the Auto Finance Network sure does miss those guys. ;D ;D

The reason why another station in AZ didn't pick up Big O & Dukes is because they weren't canned. When CBS flipped Free FM, rather than letting O&D go, they arranged to transfer them to a much bigger market--where they happen to be working in the market where they started, working with the morning show they originally spun off from, and working with a PD they have always been very tight with. It's a no-brainer all around.
