Oakland Raiders radio broadcasts in Seattle?

I was listening to my Sony Discman on Sunday while I was out walking at a local park, and in my scanning through the AM dial(this was after the Seahawks game was over) I came upon KKOL 1300, and heard the the Raiders vs Chiefs game from Oakland.

Question is: anybody know when the Raiders started airing on KKOL? Also, was this publicized at all? Or was this simply a technical hiccup at the station?

If 1300 is indeed carrying the Raiders though, since the Raiders are syndicated through Compass Media Networks, are they(or would they) consider carrying Compass's coverage of other non Raiders NFL games, or college football or basketball?

Hopefully somebody can answer this, or has some insight into this, as I would like to know about this.

Honestly, KKOL would score MORE presets on radios if it ran Aussie Rules football games......No doubt they would HAPPILY syndicate to American stations in the summer for bored American football fans (Because of the time difference, it often makes for GREAT late/overnight programming for a TRUE sports station.....)

It's WAAAY better than American football too.........

Just my opinion......

OK, first off... was it a "RAIDERS" game or a game that the Raiders happened to be playing in? It could have easily been a WW-ONE Sunday game that featured the Radiers and Chiefs. There's a difference. Was there something about the broadcast that led you to believe it was the Raiders Radio Network? Know what I mean?

According to the Oakland Raiders web site, here are the affiliates...

I definitely understand what you mean Randy. First, because the Seahawks had an early game in Cleveland, Westwood One was also carrying a game on KJR 950(Packers and Vikings if I remember correctly).

I know it was a Raiders Radio Network broadcast because as I mentioned earlier it was Compass Media's broadcast of the game, and I know they are the syndicator of the Raiders network now. I also know it was the Raiders radio network broadcast because the announcers were the Raiders broadcast team of Greg Papa and Tom Flores(both of whom incedentally didn't have too much to say partly because Oakland got shut out 27-0 :)

Hope that helps. Also, the Raiders are off this next Sunday so i'll have to wait a week to see if this is an all season long thing.

Why don't you just call Salem and ask them? (206) 443-8200

I guess that would solve the mystery. The Raiders web site is probably not listing all affiliates. Cool that they have a network station in Seattle...

I actually e-mailed them earlier in the day, and the person I talked to mentioned they carry NFL and college football games every now and then. Apparently they carry the Raiders on occasion, but not on a regular basis.

Although in the e-mail(I e-mailed the program director of KKOL), the person I talked to mentioned that the next NFL game would be carrying is the Raiders/Broncos game next week.

I like the fact that KKOL is carrying football, but couldn't they list it on their website or something? More then likely people would like to know that station is carrying games.

Andrew: That is interesting, although from what it sounds like the station is a partial affiliate, but even if they do air a partial schedule, I would think they would have it listed.

Didn't KIRO-AM run the Raiders network back pre-Seahawks for a time? ( I remember this a kid).

Interesting that KJR would do that in 'hawks country, but I was referring to the period before the Seahawks started in '76. My guess is KIRO carried the Raiders leading up to this, perhaps '74, or '75. Anyone remember this? I think the late Bill King, perhaps better known as the voice of the NBA Warriors was the main radio PBP guy.

Yes ... remember that. Raiders, as I recall, were closest team to "follow" ... in same way most in Portland and Spokane consider Mariners the "home" team.

Isn't the raiders on the AFC, and the AFC doesn't have any other teams along the west coast? From Seattle to San Diego.

NFL AFC west: Oakland, San Diego, Denver, Kansas City.

I recall KTCR 1340/Kennewick was on the Raiders Radio Network in the early 90s as well.

How was KKOL's spotload during their broadcast of the game vs. Kansas City? Being a Raiders fan myself, I've always wondered how the non California affiliates sales departments do with billing.

Wasn't there a 1340 in the north sound that carried the Raiders 7 or 8 years ago?

If the sales support it, smart move for KKOL. Gives them a niche with an audience that might not seek them out normally. Positions them nicely across from the other sports outlets in town as well.

Just to clarify... Compass Media Networks has agreements with the Raiders and Cowboys to syndicate their games to out of market stations, even those in existing NFL markets. For the Raiders games, the same team is used for in-market and out-of-market stations. For the Cowboys, a completely separate radio team is used for the syndie games compared to the in-market Dallas Cowboys radio network.
