OASIS CHANGES (and a break gone wrong)

105.7 has a new station voice. He sounds good. Plus they now call themselves "Old School Memories". They haven't had any positioning over the past year so this is a positive.

Now for the break gone wrong. This was around 6PM Saturday. I believe Connie Breeze was the jock. She gave some Bobby Brown show prep and then sounded all excited as she introduced "Don't Be Cruel". The only problem was the song that played was Mariah Carey-I'll Be There.

I'm not the type that is hypercritical or nitpicky over individual breaks but that certainly caught my attention (and probably everyone listening), Of course we have all heard similar breaks where the voicetrack doesn't match the song. Sometimes it's because the computer drops the song for time but keeps the voicetrack intact. We didn't have glitches like that in the pre-VT era.

That's what they get for not being LIVE 24/7. That's what's missing from radio. It has ALWAYS been about people and localization. Maybe someday, SOMEONE will get it.

I've seen this same "Break go wrong" event happen with jocks who think they are to good to wear Headphones. At one station back in NY when I was just starting out, we had a jock who not only didn't wear Headphones but usually had his monitor turned down. Did a break with the wrong song intro, didn't listen to it and back announced as if what he had intro'd had just played. He didn't last long on air and ended up a fairly good salesman!
