Obama will never get my vote, I have just one simple question When will people have respect for others, and stop trying to gain something for themselves at the hands of someone else's pain weather it be a politcal agenda or anything else. This is what is wrong with america today it is my guess that the majority of people could care less about what Imius said, I think Imus was fired not only because Sharpton and Jackon got up in arms but also most of Imus's sponsors pulled out thus putting the radio suits under pressure. I show tolorance for all people but Obama makes me sick he has absolutly no right to compare one "racist" remark by one dj to the sensless killings of over 30 innocent people.

Yes, he does say 'verbal violence'. Does he say '...which is just exactly what happened in Virginia...'? No. Is he employing a technique that is present in all political speech? Yes. He is rolling into his speech CURRENT EVENTS. He is not comparing violent acts, merely itemizing them.
Now, in my opinion, Imus' words were more insensitive than 'violent'.
But can words be used to abuse (like Imus is rumored to be behind the scenes)? Yes.
If you'll forgive Obama's hyperbole, I will forgive yours.
Here is a hint for the future postings like this which are basically lies and mass misrepresentation by the right wing hate spewing machines. If you are going to post a link about comments someone made and badly misrepresent and lie about those comments, its generally not a good idea to have an audio link there so we can actually hear the comments for ourselves which BADLY contradict the title of the thread...

It was not a huge gaffe, it was not the botched Kerry joke either, it was a point that many choose to disagree with because in the same sense as those listening to shock radio waiting to be offended, many are listening and dissecting every word that politicians utter these days and are looking to create gaffes, scandals and mis setps,..in other words this is nothing, nothing. He didnt say that Imus's comment was as bad as or equal to the tragedy of the VT shootings which is what the title of the thread implies and that so many want to believe he was saying.
Wait for a real controversy for God's sake, no need to invent them as we're living in a section of time where they seem to pop up with every news cycle.
