Obama on Leno

How did Leno's numbers with Obama on Leno do on Thursday in comparison to college basketball going on at that late hour? I know that a little controversey happened with Obama mentioning something about special olympics and bowling. The audience cheered Obama on. I wonder what would happen if George W. Bush was on Leno?

People like to exaggerate and make something out of nothing. Obama made light of himself by saying that he's not a great bowler. It's like watching the special olympics. I personally thought it was funny. But he said it so quick that it was easy to miss. Just a two second off handed remark. I don't know how Leno's ratings were that night, but I can almost guarantee you that the clip on youtube had higher ratings than the show scored on NBC. lol

You're telling me that if anyone else made that special olympics comment, people wouldn't be calling for his head on a platter?

Maybe that's what the teleprompter said. His script writer will be the one who is sacked.

Joe Biden.

(Shame on you for not thinking of him first.) :D

I don't know how college basketball on CBS did, but President Obama's appearance on The Tonight Show was the fourth highest rated episode under Jay Leno's tenure:

It's a major feather in the cap of Leno as his Tonight Show stint comes to an end: He's the first ever to interview a sitting POTUS on a late night program, and the show draws a huge number.

So, you think watching the Special Olympics is funny?

If Bush would have made the same remark, you'd be all over this board raking him over the coals. But since it's Obama, he gets a free pass

Look what happened when Don Imus mentioned a quick comment about that college female basketball team. Most everyone missed it until it was played over and over and over into overkill. Then we all know the outcome there.

Will be very interesting to watch how the media handles this one. Perhaps a joke taken out of context, but on the other hand, if one man gets thrown under the bus by the media for joking comments about a minority group, then a standard is set in the short term. Basically: They better hold his feet to the fire for this one.

So much to cover on this topic!

If W. Bush went on (he wouldn't) I think he would be warmly received, maybe some boos. However if it was right after 9/11, he would be cheered. I think Clinton, H.W. Bush and Reagan would've been cheered.

Obama did the right thing by bringing it up and apologizing before the Tonight Show was aired. Somebody would have picked it up and played it forever.

Everyone should be mad. Obama did the right thing by calling Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver to personally apologize.

I think the difference is that Imus has a history of 'bad choices' and his touched off raw nerves. Can't remember if the I-Man apologized right away, but I think it was (hours/days) after the firestorm.

Yes, we all should hold his feet to the fire.

Special Olympian Kolan McConiughey challenged the President to a bowling game. I suspect we will soon see pictures of this meeting.

You twisted my words (or) maybe you just didn't understand. Obama saying that his bowling is so bad that it compares to the special olympics is funny because he is goofing on HIMSELF. That is the funny part. We finally have a president who can be honest about his skills, or lack of skills. So the man pokes fun at himself. Joking about himself is the part that I find funny. That is the point that people are missing. Not once did he ever make fun of the special olympics. The guy made fun of HIMSELF! But of course every Republican is going to twist this into something controversial simply because they are angry that Obama is even in the White House. Silly people. You lost the election. Isn't it about time you got over it already.

Not every Republican. I think the whole conflagration is stupid. I refer to being "special, as in Special Olympics" all the time. It's no big deal.

I agree, Obama was engaging in self-deprecating humor, but please, he isn't nearly the first president to do so. Bush was quite adept at making fun of himself. What's funny about Obama is that the hue and cry comes from those who tend to philosophically agree with him. As for the Republicans, they are just being opportunistic, much as the Democrats were for the past eight years. Making political mountains out of molehills passes for sport in Washington.

I agree with Clint Eastwood that we've taken this whole sensitivity thing way too far. But that has come from the left, not the right, and minorities are most prominent in pushing for "sensitivity", so for those who don't like Obama, his comments are hypocritical, and there is a certain satisfaction to seeing him hoist by his own petard.

Myself, I wait for the day when "Special Olympics" are a forgotten comment. It will probably be the same day that the octomom's 15 minutes of fame are finally up.

The president sure acted like a celebrity on Leno. Watch how he walked up to the chair.
Smiling. Taking in the adoring public.

It's much the same at his rallies where screaming thongs can't get enough of him and he promises to solve all their problems, like provide them a refrigerator and a car.

With all the TV shows, ESPN and appearances he's putting in, it's a wonder he has time to even do some work in the White House.

He has been getting quite a bit of face time lately, hasn't he? In a way, it still kinda feels like campaign season.

It still is campaign season. Except now, he's campaigning for his agenda, not for office.

Hence the "war room." Go after anyone, especially certain media figures on CNBC and Rush, and don't let anyone get out alive. Attack them vigorously as a kind of smokescreen to cover up other shortcomings or weaknesses in the leadership.

Please. As if John McCain didn't do that during his appearances on the late night talk shows.

That's the problem...all he knows how to do is run for office.

And win too. If the GOP were better at it, I doubt you'd be lodging this complaint.

He's not a candidate anymore.
He's in office. Every word he says is an official pronouncement of the U.S.A.

He should take his office more seriously.
