Obama on WIP Morning show, 3/20/08

nothing special. Obama on for five minutes. No tough questions, just angelo kissing butt.

Yep, that's what I read.

He did throw in the "Why should we vote for you?" question, which is pretty much the same treatment Hillary got from Booker. Can't say I expected anything more from a sports talk station.

Obama is trying to make a run at a demographic that is tilting slightly in Clinton's favor with an interview like this.

And just what should Angelo have asked him? He had 5 minutes. Hardly enough time to get into the inane stuff they talked about.

I love armchair talk-show hosts everywhere. I would have enjoyed hearing either of you conduct the interview to see what brilliant questions you would have asked.

I would have asked him "what is a typical white person"?

Hey Kyle, It wasnt like Obama made a surprise call and Angelo wasnt prepared. Angelo should have had better questions ready. A good interviewer actually listens to an answer and then follows up. Example, what is a typical white person. Wasn't the question about his grandmother one of the first questions asked. So Im not being an arm chair talk show host, its someone knowing how to be prepared for an interview.

It's Angelo Cataldi, not Charlie Rose for crying out loud.

If you're going to make this argument, then why don't we dredge up the Hillary-on-Q102 thread and harangue Booker for not asking the "tough questions" too?

It's a fluff program, it's meant to be enjoyable and entertaining, and it served it's purpose. It's not 60 Minutes and it doesn't try to be, either.

Obama is running for president, and Pennsylvania is an important state for both candidates. I dont care what station you go on, whether its sports, talk, or even classical music, I would at least try to talk some issues.

Obama made it simple for him. "What is a typical white person?" It's the ultimate question. Cataldi admitted himself that he asked soft ball questions. I think Cataldi was more in awe of who he was interviewing than actually preparing himself for the interview.

Regardless, when someone says "Typical White Person", I think even the Phillies Ball Girls would have known what question to ask next. It's not arm chair interviewing, it's called good, objective interviewing. I respect Cataldi, but I feel he dropped the ball here.

In the interest of equal time, Sen. Hillary Clinton will be on Eskin's show on WIP today in the 5 pm hour.

This week, John McCain was on Eskin's show. This would imply that Obama would be returning to WIP for another interview in the very near future, due to the "equal time" rule.
