He died of "age-related causes" in Beverly Hills CA, according to his step-daughter.
As the president of Capitol Records, he also signed Frank Sinatra (at the low point of his career in the early '50s), the Beach Boys, and (eventually) the Beatles, to recording contracts, among many others. It took him almost a year for EMI (Capitol's major stockholder) and Brian Epstein to convince Livingston that the Beatles were worth it. Their 1963 singles were released on Vee-Jay and Swan, rather than Capitol.
He created Bozo in 1946 after first being hired by then-new Capitol, and later hired a Goofy guy named Pinto Colvig to be the first voice of Bozo on the records. IIRC, Colvig was also the first person to play Bozo on TV. Livingston also wrote and produced records featuring Woody Woodpecker and various other cartoon characters.
