Obit: Ann Colone, Indiana TV host dies at 77

I knew WFWA PBS-39 in Ft. Wayne had produced a documentary about Ann's life but I had never seen it. I had been looking to see if they might run it in the wake of her recent passing and they did run it twice this weekend. I am too young to have seen her show but have heard quite a bit about in recent years.

Her first job was at WGL-AM 1250 radio in Ft. Wayne. She started there right out of high school as a secretary and later as the station's first female DJ before WANE-TV hired her as the host of their midday women's interest program. The original title was "Woman's Page" (I think) but was changed to "The Ann Colone Show" at the request of the hostess since she had never fit the role of a typical housewife of the time.

Many clips were included including appearances by Andy Griffith, Bob Hope, and the Beatles (as well as many other personalities of the past who I have only read about). There were also interviews with her boss and her cameramen as well as the hostess herself.

Another interesting tidbit: she was even offered the opportunity to go national but turnbed it down (ala Cincinnati's very own Ruth Lyons).

An interview from a couple of years ago it still as WANE-TV's website in their "Featured Videos" section: www.wane.com
