Obit: 'Big' Al Downing at 65

(From the "Boston Globe")

"Big" Al Downing, a durable singer-songwriter and pianist who emerged from the shadow of Fats Domino to score hits on the country, disco, rhythm-and-blues, and rock 'n' roll charts, died of leukemia Monday at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He was 65.

Mr. Downing most recently had several country hits, including ''Mr. Jones" and ''Touch Me."

'Most recently' being the 1970's...Not sure why Big Al wasn't a bigger star, I remember seeing him on "Hee-Haw" (where else did you see country singers then?)and he was a great entertainer.
