Obit: Bill Hunt

NERW reported today that Bill Hunt, former broadcast station manager and owner, has died at the age of 66. In 1980, he was originally with WTRY and WPTR for about a year, moving to WTEN-TV 10 as an account executive. Hunt also helped launch independent TV station WTZA (now WRNN) in Kingston, returning to Albany as a manager of WTRY/WPYX-FM, and eventually general manager of WQBK (helping bring in Howard Stern in the market). In 1995, Hunt purchased WEMX (94.5 FM, now WYKV) and turned the format to talk, and eventually LMAing with Paul Bendat for a simulcast of WABY-AM 1400, retiring from radio in 2002.

Retiring from radio in 2002? He was General Manager at Adirondack Broadcasting much more recently than that. He was a good GM who knew to let talented people do their jobs without getting in their way. He wasn't a perfect human being but he was very good to his employees, a far better GM than the average, and he will be missed.
