Obit: Bonnie Franklin Passes from "One Day At a Time"

Yes, it caused quite a stir (which was par for the course for a Norman Lear
production in the 70's).

Sad news about Miss Franklin. Just saw her the other day on JLTV in an episode
of the Israeli version of Sesame Street. At the time most would not have bet
on Mackenzie Phillips outliving her.

She's the first to go right? I remember her on an old "Munsters" episode. I think I recall her on an old "Patty Duke" Show too.

I think her last performance gig was on "Young And The Restless." Despite being as ill as she was from pancreatic cancer, she looked great.

For major cast members, I think she is. Pat Harrington is getting up in age (1929?), but he's still with us. Valerie Bertinelli will be 53 in April. Her son Wolfgang will turn 22 later this month. I believe Mackenzie Phillips is now 53. If you do the math, Bonnie would've been barely old enough to be Val's mother in real life!

Joseph Campanella is still around, born in 1927. Yes, he made a few appearances from the first season, all the way till Barbara getting married.

Nanette Fabray is 92.

And Shelley Fabares (Nanette's niece in real life) who played the recurring role of Francine Webster is now in her late 60's.

Shelley played Christine on the tv series Coach.

When a Norman Lear sitcom star passes away, I end up humming the theme song in my head over and over and over again! :D

R.I.P., Bonnie, you brought us a mixture of laughs and seriousness as you tackled the issues way back in the day!

For all the belly-laughs......And for all the spirited controversy......God Bless Norman Lear!

ABC, which also noted her death on Friday's nightly news broadcast, had a story on her last night that included some sound bites Bonnie had done in recent years, noting the impact the show had on some viewers.
