Obit: Bruce Dortin, WABE news, @ 62

ATLANTA, GA. Bruce Dortin, a veteran journalist, award-winner reporter and a long-time presence on Atlanta radio, has died.

He recently celebrated his 62nd birthday.

A native of Boston, Dortin covered news all over the world - as a journalist and broadcaster - while serving in the U.S. Air Force.

As part of his work in the military during the Cold War years, Dortin anchored television broadcasts that went out every evening to West Berlin.

I talked to Bruce regularly on the telephone and saw him at least once each year. He was polite although sometimes abrupt, probably due to his Boston roots.
He was a great writer and with a knack for telling stories in a way few radio reporters even bother to do anymore. I know he'll be missed at WABE.I'll miss his calls.
