Obit: Charlie Stanley, 85; "Trade-Out King," Owned WEW-AM

Charles Stanley was known to some as "The Trade-Out King" due to his ability to negotiate uncanny advertising deals, including the exchange of Chrysler vehicles for commercial time on WEW (770 AM), the oldest radio station west of the Mississippi, which Stanley had owned for nearly three decades.

Stanley, inducted into the St. Louis Radio Hall of Fame in 2004, passed away over the weekend.

Ironically, WEW in its current existence is running a "brokered programming" format, according to Wikipedia.

Never met the man, but heard a lot about him. I know one guy who traded out his wedding reception through Charlie. He was famous in his own right.
