The A-P is reporting that sports broadcaster Curt Gowdy
has died at age 86.
Gowdy died in Palm Beach,
Florida, after a battle with leukemia.
The longtime voice of the Red Sox made his broadcast debut in 1944.
Gowdy became the main play-by-play voice on the Boston Red Sox
broadcast team in 1951, a job he eventually left in 1966 for a
ten-year stint as Game of the Week announcer for N-B-C.
He was also N-B-C's number-one announcer on its N-F-L broadcasts and the
long-time host of the "American Sportsman" series.
