Obit: Dennis Weaver(1924-2006)

> Looks like we have lost another classic TV star.

How unfortunate. Dennis was a guest on my radio talk show several times in the late 1980s and he was always great. And a true gentleman. Not many of those left.
______________

>>How peculiar that three old-time greats have just left us in the last couple of days. (Dennis Weaver, Darren McGavin and Don Knotts)
>>All were larger than life tv stars of the 50's, 60's and 70's.
>>All had first names begin with the letter "D".
>>What other similarities come to mind among these three icons?

All three portrayed characters known for wearing hats, Mr. Knotts & Mr. Weaver were born the same year and it's been reported that the cause of death for those two was cancer. Sorry if I sound a bit morbid. RIP, guys. You will be missed. I know that TVLand is doing an "Andy Griffith" marathon tomorrow night. Does TVLand have the rights to the Weaver "Gunsmoke" episodes? I wonder if Sci-Fi plans on airing any "Night Stalker" episodes? They did a marathon a couple of months ago. I have a copy of "The Six Million Dollar Man" TV movie pilot with Mr. McGavin on DVD(in it's original form, not the syndicated version).
______________

i think that hallmark owns the rights to all of the 30 minute gunsmoke episodes (all black & white), which ran from 1955 thru 1961 (also, the years 1957-1961 is when gunsmoke was ranked #1 by nielsen. so, these were the peak years in terms of the show's popularity).

the encore/westerns channel has the rights to the 60 minute gunsmoke episodes in black & white, running from 1961 thru 1965. weaver played chester thru the 1962-1963 season.

believe it or not, there is at least one episode where chester and ken curtis's festus character (which in essence replaced chester) were together, i think called "prairie wolfer". i caught it on the westerns channel and was fascinated by that.

hth.

I don't know if it was the same episode but I saw a Gunsmoke
> 0n the Encore Westerns Channel that had Dennis Weaver (Chester), Ken Curtis (Festus), and Burt Reynolds (Quint)all in it.
