Obit: Fred Powers, 49 - former KPHO-TV news anchor

He died of cancer on June 23 in Atlanta. He had been with WGCL-TV since 1997. He'd been at Channel 5 from 1994-1997.

Here's an interesting New Times article from March 1994 introducing him, including why he changed his last name from Fife (his real name) to Powers when he joined then-independent KPHO. Hint: It involves a fictitious deputy sheriff and a governor.
