OBIT: GENE NELSON (Sacto Version)

A few years ago, I was high-bidder for an original B&W picture on eBay
depicting a good-looking gentleman (sort of resembled Durwood Kirby,
at least to me) behind a KROY microphone interviewing a woman from
Hazel Bishop Cosmetics. This gentleman, it turned out, had quite the
history in Sacramento Radio/TV...

His name was Gene Nelson, not to be confused with the San Francisco
radio personality of the same name, hence my subject-title above...

Through Harry Warren at Valley Broadcast Legends, I was able to talk
with Gene via telephone, and as the article suggests, he was a neat guy.
I enjoyed talking old-time radio with him...

Gene passed away last week, age 87...

Wow, I had no idea he was that old. He was a radio legend around here from his KROY days and all. I saw him in the early/mid 80's, he sure didn't look like he was over 50....

Ironically, He was mentioned on the KTXL-FOX 40's 40TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL on OCTOBER 26. No Footage Of The Show but they did have a photo.
