Although mostly known for collaborations with Burt Bacharach on music for films, many of the songs first heard during those movies made their way to use as backgrounds and performances in numerous TV shows and specials. A past president and longtime member of ASCAP, David would be lauded for his work with an Academy Award, an ASCAP Award, and, earlier this year, the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The Gershwin Prize was awarded to him alongside Bacharach by President Obama during a White House tribute/ceremony. David died Saturday after a recent stroke.
