(From variety.com )
===============================================================================
Joe Jones, a musician-turned producer who sang the 1961 R&B hit "You Talk Too Much" and went on to become an independent music publisher and advocate for black artists' rights died Nov. 27 of complications from quadruple bypass surgery in Los Angeles. He was 79.

"Oldies" stations probably don't care... Re: Obit: Joe Jones @79... "You Talk Too Much"

I heard that too on the radio. Was this artist a New Orleans artist, like Ernie K. Doe, Lee Dorsey, Fats Domino, etc.?

I wonder if any so-called "oldies" stations bothered to mention this news.

I've noticed in listening to MUSIC CHOICE, which shows artist info, many oldies artists passing away in the last 5-10 years such as TIMI YURO.

I wonder if any "oldies" stations even care.

Joe Jones did the original California Sun.

Joe Jones

Doubt it. No offense to Joe or his fans, but Joe Jones isn't exactly a marquee name in rock & roll history. One nice song- but I highly doubt most listeners of the format would even recognize his name or, if they did, I'm not sure how radio people would expect they'd react...I mean, tragic for his family but in the big picture, not a big deal event.

Re: Joe Jones

Worth a mention..but no tribute special will be happening. Definately tragic that he never got a dime for the song.<P ID="signature">______________

I had heard that he got no royalties because he ended up recording the song for one label, then turned around and recorded it for another, thus voiding both contracts. Did I dream that?

Joe Jones

Probably true. Happened to a lot of artists back then.
