Obit: Michael Collins, 63: WICC, WZBG, WQUN

Collins worked at the wire for the Associated Press for fifteen years before launching Litchfield's WZBG. He also spent eight years as the general manager of Quinnipiac's WQUN. Prior to his stint at the AP, Collins also worked at WICC/Bridgeport.

According to the AP, his death at his home on June 17 "was poisoning by ethylene glycol, and antifreeze," and a police chief cited "unusual circumstances" that were beign investigated by detectives.

I was really surprised as I was unaware of his health problems. I remember him mostly from his appearance on the CPTV production that highlighted Connecticut television. Perhaps CPTV will re-air it as a tribute.
 
When I was a student at Quinnipiac with plans on going into radio, Mike was a generous, patient, and kind mentor. His death is a terrible tragedy. Hopefully justice will be served considering the "unusual circumstances" of his death.
