Obit: Percy Sutton, 89, founder of Inner City Broadcasting Corp.

WLIB and WBLS have been hallmarks of local radio in New York City. These great radio stations under the Sutton family & trusted folk have taught us that radio can be more than formats---they are community. Don't misinterpret this community focus as somehow weak against Wall Street bean-casters ---quite the opposite. These are the stations which lead with Steve Harvey mornings, with compelling community based cause marketing...and ratings higher than the competition. To Pepe, Skip and Charles...and the ICBC family.. God bless you and keep you a strong and independent voice in New York radio.

a friend.

You can't take away what Sutton has done as a businessman, including in broadcasting. Of course, most radio geeks will remember him as the man who, under his watch, bought WOWO in Fort Wayne, Indiana so their 50,000-watt signal could be downgraded, and let WLIB in New York go 24/7.
