Obit: Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

And Phyllis was competing, sort of, with Carol Doda on Broadway (SF) and Sausalito dancer and mayor Sally Stanford.

Really? Did Carol Doda start that early? Diller's early appearances were about 1955 - I didn't think Carol came along until the late 60s, though I may be wrong. I used to see Carol walking down Broadway in North Beach in the 70s.

Later, she did on-air pre-recorded trailers and announcements for for KICU, "The Perfect 36" in San Jose. Considering that her...uh...attributes were probably larger that 36, the gimmick was a little shaky on the facts, but people liked it.

According to Wikipedia Doda began her topless career in 1964. I only remember she was....*ahem* big stuff in 66-68. Her original 36 size had been increased to 44. We used to frequent an improv theater on Broadway just a few doors down from her place and it was common to see her out front advertising her *cough* assets. That improv was, BTW, the place that DJ "Johnny Fever" (Howard Hesseman) got his start and he was hilarious.

I remember several local companies in the Pacific Northwest hired Phyllis to do commercials. It was always fun to see Phyllis hawking local food brands along with some great jokes while I grew up!!! RIP, Phyllis, you made us smile over and over again!
Here is an example of one of Phyllis' local commercials:

I think she did Nalley's Chili, which was a popular local brand, up in Washington State.
