Obit: Renee Roy, "Love of Life" star @ 74

, who starred in 1960's soap opera "Love of Life," died July 30 of cancer in New York. She was 74.
She started as a comedienne, doing standup as Miss Connecticut of 1951 and moving into TV on Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows" and the "Steve Allen Show."

But her biggest claim to fame was in the role of the temperamental nightclub owner Clare Bridgeman on daytime TV's "Love of Life" from 1967 to 1970.

Roy also appeared in more than 300 commercials, pitching such products as Tide detergent, Armstrong floors, Lanacane itch cream and Air Wick air fresheners.
