Obit: Richard Schaal (Second City, MTM stock actor), 86

Not a huge star by any means, but Richard Schaal was a stalwart on the 1970s-era MTM sitcoms.

From the Los Angeles Times: http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-dick-schaal-20141106-story.html

Sad that he has passed. I often wondered why he wasn't used more often in TV and films - he was a very funny man, and I have no doubt, would have also been excellent playing villanous roles in TV dramas. He was the father of the beautiful and also talented Wendy Schaal, who mostly does voice work these days - Francine Smith on American Dad, among others.

To clarify, Schaal was a member of the Second City company in Chicago. He did not appear on the SCTV television show.

Among his work for MTM, he played "Chuckles The Clown" on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"(prior to the classic episode about Chuckles' funeral).

He was married to Valerie Harper for 14 years. He had quite a few TV credits, but nothing more recent than 1990. As with all actors, the best place to find out basic details about his career is IMDB.

I don't mean to be crude, but I will :)

Isn't Valarie supposed to have been dead by now?

Based on her doctors' predictions, yes. But she's not the first example of doctors being full of sheep dip when they give someone a terminal diagnosis. According to articles I looked up, her brain tumor is incurable, but it has stabilized. I know a few people personally who had similar predictions from their doctors who lived several years past the doctors' estimates.
