Obituary: Cosmo Allegretti (Captain Kangaroo puppeteer)

To this day I still maintain that CBS made a mistake in replacing ‘Captain Kangaroo’ with the numerous early morning news/talk programs in order to compete against NBC and ABC.
There was and still is a market for quality children’s television. PBS has proven that with Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers.
Granted that Bob Keeshan took ‘Captain Kangaroo’ over to PBS for a while, but by that time the original concept of the show had been so diluted that it wasn’t the same program that many of us ‘baby boomers’ grew up with.
