Obscene Call Letters? It's happening.

I didn't think the FCC allowed calls like these, but what was I thinking? Check this out.

Those were the call letters some of the students wanted for campus station KNTU when North Texas State University was renamed The University of North Texas at Denton. School administrators didn't agree.

But the other set of call letters has a certain sort of appeal. A couple of Houston area stations are likely candidates for "KWTF," don't you think?

KSUC in Keene, Texas, was on the air for many years. Not too profane, but a pretty sorry name to call your own station!

Maybe Michael Berry can arrange for KPRC to exchange calls with KSUC. ::)

It's a little late to worry about KUNT and KCUF, but what about KCID? Or KLIT?

Ehhh, big deal....this is not that new...heck, remember KLTY ?? Now if we had Canadian style calls (starting with C instead of K), THAT would be trouble....but just because it "sounds" bad but is not spelled the same, it's not that big a deal...(I know of one ham in Dallas has the call K5TIT...yes the ham in question is female)

I also know a ham that was KB1TCH :)

There was a religious station in Canada called "91.7 The Spirit" with the calls.. CFUK a few years ago.

Don't forget about the Corpus Christi station: KPUS. The Octopus.

Did any one think these out??

As I remember, the KLIT calls were assigned to San Diego at one time. They used the K*Lite moniker. Now for more calls which will not air:
KOCK and WOMB.

That was a great comedy bit. I haven't been able to locate the original which included the weathercast from Al Sleet, the hippie-dippie weather man with all the hippie-dippie weather, ...man. Part of the weather was, "...radar is picking up a line of thundershowers, 5 miles either side of the line stretching from (somewhere) to Fon-Du-Lac. Radar is also picking up a squadron of Russian ICBMs, I wouldn't sweat the thundershowers, man." Its not the exact verbiage, however it was still funny stuff.

"3:17 on Wonderful WINO...oooo-Wonderful WINO...Here's the brand new record from Billy and the Boppers, it's number one on the charts this week...next week it'll be a golden oldie.Llllllet's hear it... It's called My Baby's Dead...

Chuck:

That's from Carlin's album, "Take Offs and Put Ons", released on RCA in <gasp!> 1967! And if I told you it was the first comedy album I ever bought (much to my Mother's chagrin), I would be truly showing my age!

Amazon had used CD's starting at about $25...

Close enough ;) I HAD the LP (given to me as a birthday gift years ago)....not sure where it is now...The line was "stretching from Ssw of Sagacus NJ to nne of Fond-Du Lac (iirc)..Tonight's forecast, DARK....continued dark followed by scattered light in the morning. Tonight's low 55, tomorrow's high whenever I get up!" :)

Now let's look at the weather map.... which the cats have moved, so, try to picture the map that was here yesterday, man.

"And remember, behind every silver lining, there's a big black cloud."

I have 2 different 45s with Gerorge Carlin, Wonderful WINO/ Al Sleet, and another that I think is Al Sleet sides A and B.

And I've actually played both of them on my Pt 15 in the past few weeks. '67 huh?

If anyone really wants, I'll dub them to a podcast file. Just say so...
