Obscure hits within a soft AC format

They're all contemporary singer-songwriters. Besides them, another I like is Ed Sheeran. Anyway, they're you're contemporary soft rock artists. Just like James Taylor and Carly Simon, they carry on the style of those songs from the 70s, even if the production sounds a bit more modern.

Somewhere I saw that John Mayer is the person who subjected us to the lyrics "Say what you need to say." This is one I heard in the grocery store Saturday.

On "Weekend Edition" while waiting for "Car Talk" heard one of these really annoying contemporary rock or hip-hop musicians. It didn't surprise me to hear that he hated James Taylor. I don't recall how that came up.

Now somewhere I mentioned how much I despised Carly's "Coming Around Again" in the movie "Heartburn". This morning on the radio I heard "The Right Thing to Do". It just sounds good, but I would have to say that's my favorite of her songs, even though there are songs of hers that I like and songs I hate.

Ed Sheeran. Isn't he one of those who performed on The Grammys that I said I liked? I'm not sure.

Yes. He's the one who sings that song. That's one of my favorites by him.
 
I was recently introduced to music by Linda Eder and Eva Cassidy. I recommend them.
 
Music Lover mentioned "All I Ask of You." I hear Ricky Peterson's cover of that song sometimes on KSRW-92.5 in Bishop, CA when they are not running the morning, specialty or news shows. Ricky Peterson is a keyboard player who has worked for years with David Sanborn. He also sang a smooth jazz hit called "Look Who's Lonely Now" around 1990.

I was going to say hearing the same words over and over would drive me nuts.

But something happened yesterday that changed all that. I wasn't paying close enough attention to the time and I wasn't sure I'd make it home for Roy Ackland. If I miss one of his reports I have to see it online and that takes more effort than you'd think. Video at home just won't be satisfactory even with my new speakers.

I could hear him, though seeing is almost always the most important part. Except the station that airs his newscast was back to music by that time. And the first song I heard was "Pick Up the Pieces" by Average White Band. Which I like, even though it's not soft. And I was reminded that if I say that, I should also mention how much I also like K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Whose songs consist primarily of singing the same words over and over. So apparently it's not always bad.
 
I see you play some ballads by boy bands on your station. I would love to hear Westlife, BBMak, and Boyzone.

This is the wrong board. There is an AC board for them. The only boy bands under "standards/easy listening" are The Lettermen, The Brothers Four, The Four Freshmen, The Four Aces and The Four Lads. And I guess The Beach Boys counted as a boy band.

Actually, some Jackson Five songs would fit but since America's Best Music doesn't seem to play anyone but Michael ...

This is the forum for Soft AC (which is a type of easy listening format to most people) as well and the station that Pass The Word (the initial poster in this conversation) programs is Soft AC.

There's also Dino, Desi and Billy but no one plays them anyway.
 
When I was listing boy bands I forgot The Vogues. They have done some rock and roll (as it was called) but their version of "My Special Angel" sounds even better than The Lettermen.

As was proven at Christmas, 'N Sync and The Backstreet Boys can do that style, but that wasn't what they were known for.

And America's Best Music played the Lettemen version today. If I had never heard The Vogues do it, I'd be fine, but The Vogues sound so much better.
