Observation on WPLR from Pam Landry

I hope the former WPLR jock does not mind me sharing a recent Facebook comment with everyone here, it is spot-on:

"It both saddens and amazes me that the radio station I called home for nearly 20 years has NO women on-air hosts."

Wow, she needs to get over it. Hasn't it been over a year at this point? And wouldn't that be reverse discrimination if a radio station had a "token female" on in middays? (I know all stations do it).

That's too bad that she's putting that stuff on Facebook. She'll never get hired that way!

get over it?
talk to any 20+ year radio vet who lost their gig and ask them about getting over it.
have you seen what the job market is out there for radio right now?

I've been out of work for almost 3 years... When you've spent that long looking for a job in this economy (and I'm not just looking in radio), it's very hard to just "get over it" when the bill collectors are calling.

Read into it what you want. She was just stating a simple fact.

You know Northampton would hire her...Burlington VT and Berkelely CA too. Plenty of markets are far more open minded than Connecticut. ;D

Putting "that stuff" on Facebook? Blacklisted? Wow, I feel sorry for the police-state in your mind.

No "police-state" at all. That's just not a good career move. You don't bad-mouth your previous employers, not in this biz! There have been openings at PLR since she left, like the Megan Doll job.

I would guess that putting negative things on Facebook about the station would be one of the reasons she wasn't considered for any of those positions.

Would Pam be any happier if they hired nothing but
top-heavy 19 year-olds with no radio skills ?

Precisely, and the irony of that fact is the reason why I thought I would repost it here in the first place... wasn't trying to throw her under the bus or anything... Although, to be fair, I recall she posted a reply to this status a little later that day, pointing out that, IIRC, there are still a few female high-level employees still working at the station (though not on the air). So WPLR is not really an "all boys' club". There, hopefully this will prevent Pam from "unfriending" me...

No...WPLR is a dinosaur run by Marty McGillicuddies who still are stuck on the Doobie Brothers and Foghat.

They took a great progressive rock station and threw it into the thunderbucket.
